Season 5 was pretty good. The president was running a a neoconesque shadow operation that hired terrorists (stupid!) to participate. As much as Jack tried torture, it didn't work very well.

I've seen all six seasons, and last season was just terrible.
BTW, the writers are not all RWers and I would say that there is no real ideological bent to the show one way or the other.
