Need help DU'ing a local yocal poll ... pretty please???

HELP!!!!

--- Our local MSNBC affiliate is asking if the Democratic Mayor of Anchorage, Mark Begich, should run against the CORRUPT Don Young. ---

Just some of Congressman Young's history:

- Earmarked $223 million for building an enormous bridge from Ketchikan to Gravina Island (pop. 50) .. better known as "The bridge to Nowhere"

- Is linked to the Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal (details- http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Don_Young )

On February 15, 2007 Congressman Young attributed to Abraham Lincoln "Congressmen who willfully take action during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs, and should be arrested, exiled or hanged."
Young later had to admit that Lincoln NEVER said this!

- Young is currently under investigation for what is referred to as the "Coconut Road Scandal in Florida"

In 2006, Young added to a transportation bill a $10 million earmark for toward the construction of an interstate interchange for a short stretch of road (known as "Coconut Road") near Fort Myers, Florida. A June 2007 article in the New York Times connected the earmark to a $40,000 fund raiser for Young held by a local real estate developer, Daniel J. Aronoff, who owns 4,000 acres along the road. Young's spokeswoman Meredith Kenny initially said that the local Republican congressman, Connie Mack, had requested the funding; in fact, both Mack and local Republican politicians opposed the funding

- And if that's not enough to know what he's like -- here's a direct quote from Don Young:

"Environmentalists are a self-centered bunch of waffle-stomping, Harvard-graduating, intellectual idiots" who "are not Americans, never have been Americans, never will be Americans."

-----------------------------------

Congressman/LIAR/Asshole Don Young (R)

-----------------------------------

Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich (D)

-----------------------------------

~~~ The results of the poll will be aired tonight on our local news, and again on tomorrow morning's news.
P.S. Another awesome thing about Mayor Begich being elected for this seat... is that his his father, Nick Begich once held that seat until he was killed in an airplane crash.. It would be awesome if he was able to hold his late father's seat.
Mark Begich (born 1962) is an American Democratic politician and the current mayor of Anchorage, Alaska.
Born in Anchorage at the old Providence Hospital, Begich is the city's first Alaskan-born mayor. He is the son of U.S. Representative Nick Begich, who died in a plane crash with U.S. House Majority Leader Hale Boggs in 1972, and Pegge Begich.
-----------------------------------
Please tell Mayor Begich ==YES== KICK Don Young OUT!!
Poll is Right here: http://www.ktuu.com/
(p.s. Don Young is VERY unpopular in Alaska right now.. Mayor Begich has a super high approval rating.. but polls here are easily freeped )
Thank you!! ~~~~~
5. I lived in Anchorage a long time ago, first on North Lane and then on
Tarwater. I never wanted to come back here but my ex missed his Mommy.
It was the best place I've ever been.
Should Mayor Mark Begich run for Rep. Don Young's seat in the U.S. Congress?
Thank you for participating in our poll. Here are the results so far.
Yes 55%
No 42%
Undecided 3%
11. Hey acmavm!
I'll bet you remember the sunlight almost all night long in the summer?
Here's a webcam showing the Merrill Field (small airport area) and you can see, that at just about 8:00 p.m... it's still pretty light out!
http://www.borealisbroadband.net/Vid-Sheraton1.htm
Last night (on Solstice) it was super SUNNY, so it was a LOT lighter than tonight... It's overcast and smoky (from wildfires) tonight.
Still really sunny at 8:pm up in Fairbanks: http://arcticcam.com:16080/cam/
24. Sure do. Playing Frisbee at 2:00 a.m. in daylight. Foil on the windows.
And winter. January/February. Getting light around 9 or 10 a.m., darkening again in the early afternoon. That was one thing, people sure got snarfy around January.
But it seems colder here in the winter. The humidity.
Geeze I miss that place.
12. Sorry, Larissa, I voted no...
I'd rather (as you know) have Diane run against Don and Mark take on Ted. Just my take on it.
17. Blue.... (((sigh))) I love Diane too.. but Mark can WIN...
Sorry.. ...but according to KUDO radio today, Mark is interested in his dad's seat, not in Ted Stevens seat.
Ethan Berkowitz will clobber Ted Stevens.
That's what primaries are for. :) I have nothing against Mark, of course. It's just that I KNOW Diane, and I think we need her strong progressive voice in the House. ... Not saying that Mark isn't progressive, just he's more of a wonk, IMO. Mark's smart, but Diane inspires. Just my opinion.
ed. And as for winning, I think it's remarkable that Diane got 40 percent of the vote last time with NO help from anybody but the grassroots, and she had amazing momentum going into the election. I think we could have won in 2006 with just a few more weeks or a little more money.
I will be supporting Diane in the primary - you can't change my mind - but, of course, I will vote for Mark if he wins.
20. Yes, but.......
Last time Diane Benson was the only Democrat running..
And true -- she came close to winning.
Diane Benson
But the picture changes when she's running against a popular 2-term mayor and former assemblyman..
I know she plans to run again.
But this time she'll have much more competition.
I'd never try to change your mind Blue.. but you do know that you just voted for Don Young in that poll, don't you?
LOL!
21. Not really....
And there's more to Alaska than Anchorage, you know. Just because Mark is known and loved here, doesn't necessarily mean that he'll click out in the Bush.
And, no, I did not vote for Don Young. I don't think that was the poll question. The question was "should Mark Begich run" unless I read it wrong.
As I said, it's what primaries are for, and if Diane manages to beat Mark in the primary, then my guess would be she would beat Don in the general.
22. If she wins against Mark, I'll vote for her.... but Blue...
Even she knows that this next election won't be a cake walk.
If Mark Begich didn't have the highest approval ratings in recent history for Anchorage Mayors (which he does..)
And if he didn't have TONS of political experience (which he does..)
..then it may be a horse race.
But.. .. it will be different this time.
When Don Young nailed her for switching from the Green Party to the Democratic Party, it wasn't a problem because voters had no other options.. Wait until Mark (a lifelong Democrat) nails her with that one.
I know you've worked hard for Diane. I'm just sayin'... she has some serious competition this time.
Y'know.. the mayor's slot will be open after Mark's term is up.
23. Larissa, although Diane is my candidate...
Edited on Sat Jun-23-07 02:03 AM by Blue_In_AK
...I have to agree that there would be sweet poetic justice in Mark winning back his father's seat. I always remember that Don Young would never have been our representative had it not been for the untimely death of Mark's father in that mysterious plane disappearance back in October of 1972. I don't think they've ever found the remains, have they? I'm sure in his heart of hearts, winning that seat is something Mark Begich wants very much. If he is our candidate I will support him 100 percent.
(Just so you know. :hug: )
