Obama Breaks Bread With $25 Bronx Donor and Community Activist
Obama breaks bread with $25 Bronx donor
BY HELEN KENNEDY
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Friday, June 22nd 2007, 4:00 AM

Haile Rivera was invited to dinner with Barack Obama.

A Bronx community activist who once volunteered for Hillary Clinton was one of four small donors chosen to have dinner with Sen. Barack Obama next month. Haile Rivera, who works at a food bank and started a youth mentoring program called Hands On New York, will have dinner with the Democratic candidate and three other small donors handpicked from last week's contributors.

"I gave him $25. It's all I could afford. Now I'm trying not to jump up in excitement," Rivera said.

<>"He's very charismatic, and when he starts talking about the issues, it's not like a typical politician when you feel like you already know what they are going to say," Rivera said.

"I do like Hillary, but not for President. She hasn't been very clear on the Iraq war. And when she comes to the Bronx, it's just for parades. Latinos love the Clintons, but we're not ignorant that you only wave a Dominican flag for political convenience."

Rivera said he would talk to Obama about the war, college tuition and the failings of the No Child Left Behind law.

1. Minutes Later, Mrs. Clinton...
Broke bread with a $24,000 donor. When informed that Obama's dinner companion gave $25, not $25,000, Mrs. Clinton briefly looked puzzled, then regained her composure and said that she used to be a director of Wal-Mart, and that most of Wal-Mart's employees can afford to give even less than $25.

So there.

cause Senator Clinton has never met someone who didn't give her money, and certainly wouldn't do so as part of a campaign stunt, right?

3. Sure and Obama got all his $25 million from...
$25 donors. Wonder how often this guy will see Obama after this political opportunity?

5. There is a difference Obama is trying to bring the people
back into government instead of Corporations.

4. You know that this was a campaign publicity stunt, right?
If nothing else, the use of the term "breaks bread" should certainly tell you that.

Before anyone gets out the gasoline and match to start flaming away, I'm going to state this: all the candidates pull these stunts, so Obama's no worse than the others on this. That's not what I'm saying here.

What I am saying is: enough with the fluff. I have come to DU over the past two years for information a variety of topics. But all I have to read lately is either fluff, like this, or hatred, name-calling and abuse. What's happening to this site??
