The Third Way announces expansion of its work with the House Democrats.
Third Way Announces New Co-Chairs...Six in House to Help Lead Group

Washington, DC – Third Way today announced that it is significantly expanding its work with the House of Representatives, led by six new honorary Co-Chairs. The chairs are Representatives Melissa Bean, Joseph Crowley, Artur Davis, and Gabrielle Giffords, Jane Harman and Ellen Tauscher.

Third Way President Jonathan Cowan said in a statement: “Third Way is honored and delighted to have the leadership of such distinguished Members of Congress. They are all deeply committed to a new American politics that transcends the old debates and seeks new ideas. They represent very different regions of this country, but they are unified in the belief that we must be tough and smart in national security, modernize government to meet the new economic rules of the 21st century and create new common ground approaches to potentially divisive cultural issues.”

1. Hallelujah! Just what we need: more eat your spinach, lick Republican ass,
whining, snivelllng, ain't got no guts, Dukakis-Lieberman-Estrich-Panetta, half-Republican, half-Democrat political morphoditism.

Works every time - if the intention is to lose.

Which it is, of course.

4. if the intention is to lose
why did so many of the gains made by the Democrats in the last election come from this group?

7. Actually they didn't.
Harold Ford - lost.

Tammy Duckworth - lost.

Corporatism is NOT a winning position for Dems.

8. actually they did, but I'm not going to waste my time
posting the numbers, since I know that you're not really interested.

I do find your example interesting... since both those losses came in extremely conservative districts (or states, in the case of Ford). Are you trying to say that running a progressive in those races would have somehow won them? Is there any proof that you can offer to show this idea has any merit?

And spare me the "corporatism" rhetoric. You use that term as if it's a "one size fits all" argument. What it really is is lazy.

9. If the truth is lazy then it's lazy. Too bad if you don't like it.

And no, progressives won't always cut it in these districts. Sometimes a REAL conservative like Webb or Heath Shuler is what's needed. In FEW cases (e.g., Melissa Beam's district) is corporatism a winner. One side does indeed fit most.

2. Ugh. Ugh Ugh
If they could just mention one instance in which
these types take a stand. I guess you can count
on them to vote on the side of Business Interest.
(If you can call that taking a stand)

6. Taking on State Building...Spreading Democracy the right way.
From the Security First report.

*8.Taking on State-Building. Given the danger of failed states to our security, the
US Government must be able to stabilize and reconstruct societies in turmoil,
from Afghanistan to Darfur.
The capacity of our government to carry out these
missions, however, is weak, and that is largely a consequence of institutional
problems at the Department of State. We will need a stronger State
Department in order to succeed at state building.

9. Promoting Democracy the Right Way. The American tradition of promoting
democracy, by deed and example, dates back to the birth of the nation. The
Bush years have seriously damaged this tradition. We need to restore it by
rebuilding our institutions for peaceful democracy promotion and restoring the
credibility they once had. In particular, we need a 21st century public diplomacy
capacity.

How about rebuilding our own failed state...our own country and keeping our noses out of the business of others.

13. The Third way seems to live in a fantasy world, since when has the United States had credibility...
in spreading Democracy? Not since JFK, if that.

14. After all the work progressive activists did to get Bean elected
she stabs them in the back. Electing Democrats like this means losing is guaranteed because a real progressive agenda will never become law with conservative Democrats standing in the way. You can win all the elections in the world with their breed but still never win the legislative battles.

15. Radical Center???????We have had a CenterRight
Government for the past 6 years. We have not seen Center
in years. How can they with a straight face call themselves
Centrist when they assisted Republicans in establishing a
Center Right Government. Just asking.
