The Whole "Activist" Judge Meme
Edited on Sun Jun-24-07 10:39 PM by ruggerson
Why doesn't our side point out that rightwingers love Judges when they are activists for causes they endorse?

They only decry "activism" when it results in a progressive ruling, or one where the people gain more rights at the expense of the government or the corporate world.

Justices are the constitutional third arm of government. Their rulings, even when you disagree with them, are legitimate and a completely appropriate and important part of the political process.

The entire "activist" judge issue is yet another bogus rightwing frame.

Our candidates should be calling the Republics out on it.

1. The Rs are notorious for screaming the loudest about
the very thing they are doing ... in this case packing the courts with their own tribe across this country at all levels, which is why it is absolutely critical that a Democrat appoints the next Supreme Court justice. We must make sure there is stopgap in place to overturn the myriad of BS legislation that has squeaked its way onto the books across the country.

I think perhaps the only thing at issue as you pointed out is the word "activism." Rs applaud the "activism" of the Watergate plumbers and Oliver North and, on the other hand, deplore upholding constitutional rights for all citizens.

It's all a shell game.

2. The Court is and has been activist on behalf of Business
GOP is the party of Business. This is just fine for them.

Never forget. The Republican Party believe they are right
(correct) in everything and all issues. The court is just
doing its job as far as they are concerned.
