Suicide blasts kill 30 in Iraq

Suicide blasts kill 30 in Iraq

by Ammar Karim
Mon Jun 25, 5:55 AM ET

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Three suicide bombings killed at least 30 people in Iraq on Monday, mostly policemen, prisoners and tribal leaders, as insurgents launched fresh assaults in the violence-plagued country.

A Baghdad hotel used by foreigners, a police station and a police academy were targeted in the attacks, waged a day after an Iraqi court sentenced Ali Hassan al-Majid, widely known as "Chemical Ali" to death for the slaughter of 182,000 Kurds in 1988.

In the deadliest strike, 15 people were killed when a bomber ploughed an explosives-laden oil tanker into the police headquarters of the northern town of Baiji, a local police officer said.

Another 50 people, mostly civilians, were wounded.

"A suicide bomber driving an oil tanker tried to break into the building but he blew himself up at the gate because he could not get in. It resulted in huge damage to the building," said Police Captain Ahmed Hussein of Baiji.

1. Well, since this isn't in Tikrit, I wonder what BillO has to say about it.
These are headlines from icasualties.org: http://icasualties.org/oif/

Reuters: Suicide car bomb kills 8, wounds 31 in Hilla

Reuters: Car bombs kills 3 in Mosul

Reuters: Gunmen kill policeman, wound 3 others in Kirkuk

Xinhua: Gunmen kill Iraqi physician in Baghdad

Xinhua: Gunmen kidnap two employees of private company in Baghdad

BTW, I am hearing icasualties quoted on PBS and at least one other tv news outlet.
