Democrats target Cheney's office funds

By JIM ABRAMS
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

WASHINGTON -- House Democrats, responding to Vice President
Dick Cheney's assertion that his office is exempt from certain national
security disclosure requirements, said Tuesday they will try to strip
some of his funding.

A Cheney spokeswoman said the Democrats were just playing politics.

The proposal could come up Thursday as an amendment to an annual
spending bill, said House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md.

Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., sponsor of the amendment, noted that five
years ago Cheney claimed executive privilege in refusing to release
details about his meetings with oil industry executives to discuss
energy policy.

5. I heard Rahm on TV last night. He said Cheney said he's
President of the Senate and not part of the Executive Branch. Earlier he claimed Executive Priviledge. As Rahm said "He can't have it BOTH WAYS. If he want's to claim he's a member of the Senate, that's fine, but we will defund his staff, travel, and office space in the WH! We will pay him for his office space in the Senate which is $100,000 a year.

That's what he meant by "some".

There's also been several discussions about this, the most interesting being John Dean last night on Keith's show. When asked about this, he said Soncress has the power of the purse and well could do this. He said Cheney could certainly decide to become one of those $1.00 executives, but he really didn't believe he wanted to pay the salaries of his entire staff!

4. a spokeswoman for the vice president's office, said Emanuel "has a choice he can make:
Emanuel's office said the amendment would restrict money for the vice president's office but did not contain a specific monetary cut.

Hoyer, asked if the amendment would pass, said, "I don't know about that." But he said "we shouldn't fund him in both branches. I think there's going to be consideration of an amendment and that will be discussed."

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., speaking Sunday on Fox News Sunday, said Cheney's move was "the height of arrogance." She said it might not be a bad idea that money for Cheney's office be held up until he decides whether or not he's in the executive branch.

Megan McGinn, a spokeswoman for the vice president's office, said Emanuel "has a choice he can make: either deal with the serious issues facing our country or continue to play partisan politics."

ha ha-the vp office will not address the issue! Cowards!

7. The first thing they need to defund is his personal ambulance..
and all of the private hospital rooms that are prepared and waiting for him everywhere he goes. I also think the anti-missile device outside his private residences should go on the chopping blocks, permanently. Next, let's defund all of his "undisclosed" locations, and his trips on A.F. 2. Make him sit his fat ass here in D.C. for the rest of his term.
