Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey is one of only two possible candidates talked about by the Nebraska Democratic Party to challenge the Republican nominee.

Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey said he supports a resolution endorsed by a group of U.S. mayors calling for the Bush administration to begin planning for the swift withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

Fahey did not attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in Los Angeles or participate in Monday's vote, but he said he favors redeployment of the troops.

"Obviously, it's an issue that's been on my mind for some time," Fahey said today. "I just don't see the progress. I just don't see where the Iraqi government has held up its end of the bargain."

Fahey said he has seen the suffering of Omaha families whose loved ones have been killed in Iraq and said he does not see an end to the fighting. But he stopped short of calling for a complete pullout of U.S. troops.

Fahey's foreign policy positions could become an issue as he considers a possible Senate run, if U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel does not seek re-election. However, Fahey has said he's more likely to run for re-election as mayor.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors resolution was narrowly passed after a chaotic debate that echoed political divisions across the country.

2. Is Mike running or Bob or both? If both, who do you like?

3. You didn't address that to me, but I'll answer: Fahey. Bob Kerrey

still supports the Iraq war (and insults liberals about opposing it), Fahey doesn't (as shown above). Thus, even if Fahey eats newborn puppies for breakfast, I'd still go for him over Kerrey. I hope he runs. I think Kerrey probably will run.
