OK, I'm Out Of The Closet |
|
I confess - I subscribe to two radical ideas:
1. Democrats ought to work to help the average American. 2. Politicians should be held accountable for their votes.
There. I got that off of my chest.

2. Uhm, they've been pushing for a minimum wage increase and |
|
they've been repairing the damage done to valuable social programs by Republican budgets over the last 12 years or so. I'd say they're working pretty hard for the average American already.
There's always been only one way to hold politicians accountable for their votes - it's called "voting". It happens every 2 years for Congressmen, 4 years for Presidents, and 6 years for Senators.

3. I remember when that was not so radical.... I subscribe to those |
|
ideas as well. I believe there is enough to go around for everyone. I grew up in a family of ten. I know what it means to go without and to share. It can be done. The second radical idea is about votes. We lost the power of that idea" our vote having meaning" when corporations ,privacy over source code, trumped our rights to visibility over the courting of those votes.

7. Theoretically, all elected office holders who collect a |
|
paycheck courtesy of the taxpayers should be beholden to them. Sadly, the public only gets the attention of their elected officials when it's re-election time and they are looking for a contribution.
At the Presidential level the fundraising effort is all that matters. I sent a brief letter to a candidate last month dealing with a local news story that I thought would be of particular interest to that candidate - strictly a "For Your Information" sort of thing. It would have been appropriate for some low level staffer to have sent a brief response, but they couldn't be bothered. Instead I was added to the fundraising list, and I've been bombarded ever since.
As for being held accountable for their votes, who is going to do it? The media whores? The public? Most people don't even know who their Congressional representatives are, much less how they vote. It's a terrible situation.

8. I've always thought that Rep's, Sen's and the Exec Branch... |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 10:46 AM by rasputin1952
should all be paid the minimum wage, no health insurance, no perks at all. There should be a ban on taking any contributions over a dollar, per person, per lifetime, and every time a congresscritter or exec branch member says anything about others being "unpatriotic", they lose a months pay. If they visit a flag factory, or have more than one American Flag on the stage, they lose 2 months pay, and have their mouths gagged w/a flag.
Corruption should be a serious crime in gov't, and anyone convicted of corruption should receive a life sentence w/o parole, all family assets confiscated and placed into a trust fund that ensures children get immunizations and food. After all, if a landlord can lose his house and other property because someone smoked pot in a rental, congresscritters should get life and confiscation of their property...w/o due process, for stealing billions.
These are not radical ideas...I just figure what they place upon others, they should be held accountable to...:D
As for the USSC, Scalia should be tarred and feathered, Thomas should be forced to take remedial English, Roberts should have to wear a shocking pink robe and Alito should be crazy-glued to a toilet.
