seems to me that the general public needs to learn that impeachment is a tool that can be used for higher crimes than lying about head.

It's a tool than can and should be used whenever the "President, Vice President, (or any) civil Officer ... shall ... be Convict(ed) of Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."
