LONDON, June 28 (Reuters) - Britain's new prime minister,
Gordon Brown, started to unveil his government on Thursday,
promoting old allies to top positions and bringing in a range
of new faces to draw a line under Tony Blair's decade in power.
Former environment minister David Miliband, a reported critic
of the Iraq war and once mooted as a leadership rival, was
appointed foreign secretary, while Alistair Darling will
succeed Brown at the Treasury, according to sources.
Brown, who switched from finance minister to prime minister
on Wednesday after Blair resigned, acknowledged he must
meet a demand for change from an electorate tired with 10
years of Labour Party rule, and draw a line under the
unpopular Iraq war.

become justice minister, partly to tackle a crisis in Britain's
prison service, while Ed Balls, Brown's right-hand man at
the Treasury, may take on education or a trade and industry
brief.
