Gore says campaigning for climate, not presidency
Thu Jun 28, 2007 5:26PM EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Al Gore insists he's campaigning for
the environment these days, not for president.

The former U.S. vice president, whose documentary film "An
Inconvenient Truth" about global warming won two Academy
Awards this year, faces persistent speculation that he might
make a run for the White House in the November 2008
election.

"I'm not planning to be a candidate again for office," Gore
told Reuters on Thursday, repeating a now familiar denial at
the launch of a "call to action" for Live Earth concerts
around the world on July 7 to focus attention on climate
change.

"I'm involved in a different kind of campaign to spread
awareness of the climate crisis and the way to solve the
climate crisis," he said.

3. Alas, some have no sense of smell or only smell what they want to smell.
There are only 2 ways which Gore could answer if he was running: yes or no. It is interesting that since he is asked this all the time that some would believe that his answering "no" really means he intends to run. This is bizarre logic to say the least.

5. Actually he's used that phrasing before - - and it's not a Shermanesque statement
The phrases "I'm not planning to run" and "I have no intention to run" have a very, very long history in politics as meaning something between the extremes of "I haven't decided yet" to "I do want to run I just don't know yet if this is the cycle that I should run in" to "I will definitely run for this office this cycle but I'm not going to publicly announce my decision yet".

Every professional in politics knows this, which is why they all use the same formulations. Every professional in the MSM knows it, which is why they continue to characterize Gore's statements as "leaving the door open" or characterize Gore as "waiting in the wings".
