moments but HRC with the AIDS answer and the audience response. Biden with his knowledge on issues and Dennis with his answers on war spending...Over-all a good debate because we did not have a moderator that talked more and had more minutes then the candidates...I E Wolf Blitzer I do thank you Ben David

39. I appreciated Kucinich pointing out that the defense budget has to be cut |
|
Richardson also made a very good point along the same lines that whenever Democrats want to spend money on social programs, it's always asked "Where is the money coming from" but nobody asks that question about funding the war.

It was the best debate so far, pretty much everyone did well. I'm still pissed they hired Luntz for the after-debate focus group, but the debate itself was good.

It will be a frosty day in hell before any rethugs have a forum @ Howard University w/ a panel of journalists of color. I was thinking last night what are the rethugs gonna do to counter this - have a forum @ regents university w/ fundie bible thumpers asking bible study questions?
Every question asked, I was thinking 'how would the rethugs answer that?'

15. Thoughts on Biden admitting he had an HIV test |
|
I thought this was a good opportunity to take the stigma off having such a test and then Obama piped up thinking he had to explain why he tested. (This was after Biden said he tested and he knew Obama did too---probably not a bright thing to say since it violated Obama's right to medical privacy.) Lots of laughs, but the opportunity was lost. The impression left---and this is NOT leadership---was that you have to have done something scurrilous and lascivious to warrant wanting to be tested. After Obama explained that he got tested along with his wife after visiting Africa, Biden thought he then had to explain himself and said he had had a blood transfusion.

It looked like we were about to have a real forward-thinking moment there. When I heard Biden say he'd been tested and so had Obama, I was inwardly hoping, "Now DONT explain it." I thought it was especially unfortunate Obama seemed to have to reveal he was actually heterosexual, his wife knew about it and it was because they'd both been to Africa. Jesus H. Can Obama be any more disappointing than he has been this month? All he can do next is reveal enthusiastically, "And Joseph Lieberman has agreed to be my Secretary of State!"

It wasn't exactly a secret that Obama and his wife had been tested for HIV - they did it publicly in order to raise awareness of the issue. http://www.kaisernetwork.org/daily_reports/rep_index.cfm?DR_ID=39464

understood the black community, spoke to the poverty and disadvantages that the community faced, and spoke about the issues clearly to me, as a 40 year old white guy, understood their communities issues are my issues and America's issues, and how spectacularly wrong the Supreme court was yesterday. All too often I felt like Hillary was yelling at me, my wife told me to shut up, so there's that.

30. Obama won, Richardson Lost, the others stayed where they were...... |
|
Obama was relaxed and provoked more thought with his answers than others. An example was the issue asked about New Orleans. Obama made the statement that we must ask why New Orleans was were it was prior to the Hurricane. Why did so many believe that in the case of an emergency all everyone had to do was to get into their SUV with their Sparkling water and go check into a hotel. In other words, we, the United States are unprepared to care for those who don't have what is required to survive when emergencies hit, and that shouldn't be. Obama made one realize that this is the root of the problem in reference to what happened during Katrina.

Edited on Fri Jun-29-07 04:06 PM by FrenchieCat
which I thought you were interested in hearing...since you ask in your OP...."what was your opinion?" ...... And as I clearly stated in my initial post in providing you with my opinion that you so seeked, that I feel that Obama won.
.......I watched the debates, and I don't believe that Obama's words were a rehash of Edwards, no matter how gracious Obama appeared to be towards Edwards. John Edwards' answer on NOLA was that he would appoint someone specifically to oversee the emergency situation, and Edwards would ask him daily...."what's happening today in New Orleans"...also Edwards reminded folks that he announced his candidacy from New Orleans, which I guess must mean that he cared that much more. He talked about 700 students coming to New Orleans and working there during their break......as though John Edwards was there the entire time working with them...... :eyes:
So like I said, I liked Obama's answer on NOLA (which had nothing to do with Edwards') as I liked quite a few of his other answers.

I had only just watched the Debate and it did sem that frequently Obama did a version of "what he siad, when he spoke after Edwards. You have made it very clear you have no use for Edwrds. On the other hand, I also respect Obama.I just don't think he is too "greem" but I don't go out of my way to bash him. He is a likable guy and that is my opinion too. And thanks again for yours:)

38. Not his fault if Edwards got to answer the question before him |
|
This was the first debate where all 9 would answer every question and therefore there was bound to be a lot of repeating of ideas. Had Obama been placed in the line before Edwards, you probably would have heard a lot of "Let me agree with Barack".
But I agree, no one really won.
