Minority Voters Support Clinton

June 29, 2007
Michael McAuliff -- New York Daily News

Hillary Clinton is leading among Hispanic voters by a huge margin. Honda/Getty
WASHINGTON - Not only is Hillary Clinton leading her rivals overall, she is doing surprisingly well among minority voters, a new poll says.

The Gallup Poll's annual minority survey said the New York Democrat is virtually tied with black Illinois Sen. Barack Obama among African-Americans.

And she trounces all her rivals with Hispanic voters - even Hispanic New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.

"Right now, it's pretty much Hillary, and then all the rest," said Gallup's Jeff Jones.

According to the survey, Clinton edges Obama with black voters, 43 percent to 42 percent. Among Hispanics, she gets 59 percent support, compared with 13 percent for Obama, 11 percent for Richardson and 7 percent for John Edwards.

1. Clinton edges Obama with black voters, 43 percent to 42 percent.
Whoa! Well within the margin of error suggests that some overzelous HRC supporters are a little less than fully honest in our headlines? :wow:

43:42 percent Clinton *insignificantly* blips Obama. :eyes:

3. Wow
It is not surprising to see HRC lead among African-Americans but it is surprising to see Obama's favorable rating that low (relatively, since it is among Democratic voters).

Blacks divided as to whether Clinton or Obama would better represent their interests

by Jeffrey M. Jones

Among black Democrats, Clinton and Obama are running neck-and-neck in what is essentially a two-person contest. In the poll, 40% of black Democrats prefer Obama and 38% Clinton with no other candidate in double digits. With Gore's support re-distributed, Clinton and Obama's combined share of the black vote increases from 78% to 85%, with Edwards the only other candidate above 1%.

4. OMG! There's Lies, Damn Lies and New York Daily News "Statistics"
Edited on Fri Jun-29-07 05:18 PM by ShortnFiery
Not only is this Article's title A LIE (not telling the whole truth about minorities), but the numbers are WRONG - therefore - the report on Black Voter's preferences makes them equal. Hell, the percentages, albeit insignificant FAVOR Obama. :grr: :puke:

FROM THE ORIGINAL GALLUP SURVEY REPORT

Clinton Dominant Leader Among Hispanic Democrats
Blacks divided as to whether Clinton or Obama would better represent their interests.

Clinton is the overwhelming leader among Hispanic Democrats. A majority, 55%, choose her, with Obama and Gore barely in double digits -- at 12% and 11%, respectively. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, attempting to become the first Hispanic president, is the choice of just 8% of Hispanics.

"Among black Democrats, Clinton and Obama are running neck-and-neck in what is essentially a two-person contest. In the poll, 40% of black Democrats prefer Obama and 38% Clinton with no other candidate in double digits. With Gore's support re-distributed, Clinton and Obama's combined share of the black vote increases from 78% to 85%, with Edwards the only other candidate above 1%.

Minority Voters Support Clinton ---> LIARS! :grr:

According to the survey, Clinton edges Obama with black voters, 43 percent to 42 percent. Among Hispanics, she gets 59 percent support, compared with 13 percent for Obama, 11 percent for Richardson and 7 percent for John Edwards.

7. One debate question refered to black hs grads unemployment vs white non-grads
Clinton was the only candidate to pick up on the actual question.
All of them answered we need better education, etc., but the question was in reference
to the black unemployed actually having better academic credentials than the whites that
land the jobs.

9. OK, here's some more statistics from The Same Gallup Poll clearly favoring Obama:
To gain additional insight into the element of race in the 2008 presidential race, Gallup asked the public whether they thought Clinton or Obama would do a better job of representing the interests of blacks in the United States. By a 57% to 24% margin, Americans say Obama would do the better job. That result is largely reflective of the white majority in the United States, since whites believe Obama would better represent blacks than Clinton by more than 3 to 1.

However, blacks themselves are evenly divided on this question, with 43% saying Obama would better represent them and 39% saying Clinton. Hispanics are also evenly divided in their views.

Among all Democrats surveyed, 54% say Obama would be better at representing blacks and 29% say Clinton would.

----------

Ever since my Graduate School DAZE in Experimental Design Class, I discovered that you can almost SHOW any damn result using the right polling questions and skewing the statistical percentages.

Bottom Line: Hispanic voters feel more comfortable with HRC while Black Voters are evenly split ... AT THIS TIME. :hi:

15. Obama and Edwards have very low name ID among Hispanics
I saw a poll a few weeks ago that had Obama's name ID at 60% and Edwards at 40%. HRC, of course, has nearly universal name ID. It is inevitable that BO and JE will gain ground among Hispanics as their name ID rises.

take note of the question which was asked and finaly someone did.
On edit -
I also think it is interesting that the sub-thread I started had no reference to the point I was trying to make until I put Clinton's name in the subject line.

And it is interesting that the sub-thread I started had little to do with the original thread.

I guess some of us just like to hear ourselves talk...
