Owners Trying To Protect Editorial Independence As Murdoch Circles Wall Street Journal - 06/29/07

By Jesse Russell

As the Wall Street Journal tries to preserve editorial independence during the buy out bid by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, details leaked to the Washington Post suggest Murdoch’s company could have the sole power to hire and fire. The Bancroft family has a controlling stake in Dow Jones and the Journal is considered their crown jewel. They had been seeking to retain integrity by preventing Murdoch from having any control over the news and editorial pages. If the deal goes through then Murdoch could have the power to fire top editors at the Journal.

1. ...And you thought the Wall Street Urinal's editorial staff sucked already.
Murdoch will probably sack neocon asshat and Bush apologist James Taranto for being too liberal.

And there will be photos of nekkid wimmin on Page 2.

2. "Editorial independence" and "integrity" are terms that just don't
resonate with me when I think of the WSJ. Of course, my point of view holds that the WSJ already says and does pretty much what Murdoch wants, so why would he bother to interfere?
