Obama: "I Have some Jay-Z and Beyonce on My iPod"

Obama: "I Have some Jay-Z and Beyonce on My iPod"

No, that's not a typo. The Democratic presidential hopeful is a Jay-Z fan. During a brief interview with Angie Martinez of New York's Hot 97 FM, Senator Barack Obama disclosed that while he prefers "Ol' Skool" artists like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Miles Davis, his kids help keep him abreast with the current music scene.

"On my iPod, I've got a little bit of Jay-Z and a little bit of Beyonce," said the senator. "A little bit of that stuff. I don't want to pretend that I know as much as my 9-year old or 6-year old daughter."

Being the round-the-clock politician that he is, Obama also seized the opportunity to discuss his presidential campaign and why he deserves the African-American vote.

I may have to rethink my candidate. Like what someone listens to is a factor. Only for idiots.

3. First of all
Beyonce and Jay-Z are not great artists.

Second: who the hell cares what he listens to? Ah the commercialization of politics. He'll continue vacillating on trade and offering "job retraining" as a (expectedly neoliberal) solution, but he'll tell us what he listens to.

4. Whether or not they are "great artists" is left up to each person to decide...

Thanks for sharing your wonderful expertise though. Please help us all understand who else are not "great artists" so we won't waste our time.

The point of this post is not to say "oh cool...Obama loves Jay-Z." In the interview, Obama discusses his connection to and plans for minority and urban communities. If you had listened to the clip, you would hear little "vacillation" there.

14. Let me get this right. Companies are continuing to move jobs overseas
Look what Happen when Maytag left. Many people are without jobs. You would prefer that he let those people go without jobs, just like now. Many of those people still do not have jobs. He stated he wants to change trade laws, plus job train for those who still lose jobs. Thank God you are not running for President. You would leave people without a way to earn a living.

5. What's that sound? Oh, it PANDERING.
Good try Mr. Obama.

Can we have a moratorium on politicians and Ipod playlists, please? The lists always come off as cheap, disposable and idiotic.

Jay-Z and Beyonce. What the hell is a 6 year old listening to adult music for? The music of Jay-Z and Beyonce, while appropriate to older youth, is still enough of an adult nature that I seriously question parenting skills to allow a very young child to listen to said music.
