When will the travel limits/scanning be stopped when flying? |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-30-07 06:06 PM by zulchzulu
I flew to New Orleans today and am taking a break from a long day here. More on that later... What was really troubling was when leaving Madison this morning. The airport security was especially on alert and I was reprimanded for a couple of tiny shampoo bottles in a travel bag I never check out that I tossed in some luggage. They were supposed to be in a plastic baggie.
Aside from taking my shoes off, pulling everything out of my tech bag, turning on my laptop to see if it would explode (if it did, then what?), opening my carry-on baggage for some amped-up security guard looking for a bomb, I was amazed at what else was going on around me.
Some older grandmother was smiling nervously as she was being "wanded" while holding onto her cane and some older man and his very elderly father were standing nervously in a glass cage like a couple animals on display. Some fuddy-duddies were whispering to each other about them nearby. It was embarrassing for them.
I couldn't help but get really pissed after getting out of there and on my way to my gate. We have given up so much for such idiocy and carelessness from the Bush administration. And it seems like it's something that we just have to get used to.
When will this madness end?

1. They'll be stopped when you have to have a signed permit |
|
from the government to travel.

Nude Air. And even then you'll have to go through that x-ray thing to verify you don't have a bomb up your ass.

5. We've become a nation of suspects |
|
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Husb2Sparkly/25As for the airport crap, it seems to me little more than a massive training exercise: training we the sheeple to stand in line, shut up, and take what's dished out to us by the Authoritarians.

7. All the crap at the airport is designed to give the illusion that the |
|
government is actually doing something. Meanwhile items going into the cargo holds are barely checked and containers coming through the ports are ignored - not to mention the plan to turn the ports over to a foreign country to run.

6. Now that they have staged this little episode at the Glasgow Airport |
|
I wouldn't be surprised if things got worse, not better.

8. Personally, I'd rather be wanded at the gate than blow-up 30,000 feet in the air. |
|
Or crash into a building.

9. So I just got back from the UK yesterday... |
|
upon landing at George Bush Intercontinental in Houston....I was FLAGGED!!! First time ever, and I travel internationally for work a lot. I asked why was I flagged for both immigration and customs (I missed my connections of course...turned into a long day and a half of travel), and was told it was because I have a common name, and they need to check for warrants. There's homeland security in a nutshell....wonder if I get to look forward to this from now on.

10. You're in the database now... |
|
Obviously common names make you a suspicious person.
:sarcasm:
Your situation is unfortunate for the main reason that it's like getting an inaccurate credit report that you can't change...unless you take some kind of loyalty oath and patriotism test and get a pre-approved Good American Card.
