Democrats cash in as Republican woes grow

WASHINGTON–Follow the money and the trail becomes clear.

It leads to a Democrat in the White House.

In fact, at this point in the 2008 presidential election, recent U.S. political history has been turned on its head with the Democrats awash in cash and Republican candidates laying off staff and dipping into their own bank accounts.

Republicans are paying the price for an unpopular war, an even more unpopular incumbent limping to the end of his term and a field of candidates that has yet to fire any passion among the faithful.

Democrats, on the other hand, are offering a race that holds the potential for the first black or female president. And they think they are going to win.
