Have you taken a look at the poll over there at this site...
http://www.pollingreport.com/

The one that says the people have more confidence in the presidency than in the Congress...

A lot more...

You tell me that the Representatives in Congress don't see that...

But you know what keeps them going...

They know, because poll after poll shows it, that the people hate the Congress but, for the most part, love their congressperson...

And here is another poll that you might want to have a look at...

New Zogby Poll Shows Majority of Americans Support Impeaching Bush for Wiretapping

By a margin of 52% to 43%, Americans want Congress to consider impeaching President Bush if he wiretapped American citizens without a judge's approval, according to a new poll commissioned by AfterDowningStreet.org, a grassroots coalition that supports a Congressional investigation of President Bush's decision to invade Iraq in 2003.

The poll was conducted by Zogby International, the highly-regarded non-partisan polling company. The poll interviewed 1,216 U.S. adults from January 9-12.

The poll found that 52% agreed with the statement:

"If President Bush wiretapped American citizens without the approval of a judge, do you agree or disagree that Congress should consider holding him accountable through impeachment."

http://www.democrats.com/bush-impeachment-poll-2

You see where the numbers are, a bare majority support Impeachment if they found out "President Bush wiretapped citizens without the approval of a judge..."

That means there is support for impeachment...

If...

And that is a biggggg if...

First, congress has to investigate and find irrefutable evidence that Bush ordered American Citizens to be wiretapped without the approval of a judge...

And remember the Constitution doesn't say that just because we think the president may have committed a crime, it has to be proven so that the American people will agree...

If they can prove that to the satisfaction of the American People, then and only then should we proceed...

I don't care what the republicans did, I will never forgive them for what they did to Clinton and how they cheapened the whole concept of representative government, but I sure as hell don't want people to have that same view of the Democrats in congress right now...

And remember, the house has to pass the articles of Impeachment first and then the Senate has to conduct a hearing with the members of the Supreme Court officiating...

That with only 14% of the people who have confidence in the Congress...

Remember, the people who the elected official ultimately serve and answer too...

That is their constituents...

Not anonymous people posting on the internet...

They have to go back to their districts and face the people who voted them in...

And many of them have long memories about how foolish Impeachment was with Bill Clinton...

And they may not like Bush, they may not support the war, but until it can be proven that he actually, actually committed a crime, there is little support for impeachment...

Things might change...

But right now, I don't really think the people want to go through all of that again and there will be retribution at the polls next year if the democrats act, in the eyes of the people, recklessly while there is a war going on and their sons and daughters are getting killed, maimed and god only knows what else is happening to those poor soldiers psyche...

I want Impeachment...

I want it so bad I can taste it...

I want it so bad I wrote a thread last week saying that I was wrong to not support impeachment...

But I want to win...

I don't want to prove a point...

I want to see him taking off in a helicopter or better yet away in chains...

But we can't be reckless...

We can't appear to be vindictive...

To be petty...

To be like the republicans...

I think we are better than that...

I think we will Impeach Chaney and then Bush, but only after we know that we can win...

Because frankly, I don't think this democracy can afford another third world show trial like that one we had in 1998...

I think we are better than that...

At least I hope and I pray because I want to see out country remain a democracy that isn't dictated by whims or vendettas or witch hunts...

I want to be proud to be an American again...

Not Lee Greenwood proud...

But Thomas Jefferson proud...

Patrick Henry proud...

George Washington proud....

1. Comparing this administration with Congress IS NOT COMPARABLE
I don't care what the pollsters want you to believe

Congress is NOT a homogeneous group, but the administration is

it is comparing two dismilar things

The MSM and talking heads want you to believe otherwise, but it isn't true, and the Democrats shouldn't stand for it

Don't forget Congress has republicans also, and the Senate is essentially 50/50

I have no doubt the Democrats will be taking a much stronger stand, not only against the war, but also against the abuses of the administration.

I wouldn't be too disappointed though if the republicans succeed in dropping any real attemps, but it won't be because of the Democrats in Congress, it will be, as it has been for the last six years because of the republicans in Congress

2. Those are pretty consistent numbers..
Have been for years...

The people hate the institution but love their members...

I would be worried about the Military being put on a pedistal...

No place for that in a democracy, but I understand it...

3. You should see the polling report on abortion
It indicates a mixed picture, yet when the question is asked should roe v wade be preserved the overwhelming majority say yes

I just have to shake my head about the lack of inconsistency

It also doesn't reflect well on basic comprehension skills of the American public

I also agree with your assessement

6. The reason is because people don't understand the issues...
They are ignorant of what's going on. VERY FEW people follow what happens in Washington very closely. The majority don't follow at all.

That's why you get the inconsistency. They don't understand the intricacies of the issues.

As for the Congressional ratings. That's been true for a long time. But if you were to ask 'who do you support: the republicans or the democrats in Congress?' I'd guess the people would say the Democrats.

The problem with our Democratic leaders in Congress is that they aren't doing anything. After a strong start they just dropped off the radar. They're so afraid of the Republicans, never mind that no one supports them anymore, so that every time the Republicans say "boo" they become afraid.

You realize that the number of people who support impeaching Bush and Cheney is comparable to the number who supported impeaching Nixon (about 45% to 50%). The only difference now is that the Democratic leaders are afraid to do so.

4. I am so tired of being ashamed...
Of being an American...

Of being a liberal Democrat...

I too want to be proud again...

I want to be able to hold my head up...

While I see my country has its problems...

They shouldn't be the problems the Republicans have dealt us...

Torture...

Secret camps...

The loss of habeas corpus....

The list goes on and on...

I want my country to be a beacon of freedom...

Is it too much to ask?

Oh, I hope not.....

5. a couple of rants
If someone asked you if you were happy with congress what would you say?

(I would say no)

If the follow up was ... would you vote for a Republican?

(my response would be hell no)

And as far as Impeachment, I was just a kid when Nixon resigned, but I think it is important to push it to the limit this time. No "moving on for the good of the Country" they need to be tried, convicted, and put in jail. I don't' want to have some assholes out of the Bush Admin. to be in power thirty years later and create havoc. They need to be beaten down. (without the use of torture)

7. I agree with all your points...
I am unhappy with Congress...

I will NEVER vote for a Republican...

I agree that we need to push impeachment to the limit this time too...

Absolutely, they need to be beaten down (not literally of course)...

I would like to see the Republican party return to its honorable roots...

So that our country can heal.

8. It has to be done the right way....
Nixon resigned because he had at least some shred of decency left in him...

But this one...

I think he is far too arrogant and actually believes he will be vindicated by history that there is no hope for reasonable heads to prevail...

12. No
Nixon resigned because the republicans told him he'd be removed by the Senate.

There was no decency in Nixon.
