especially if she ran against Pelosi, (should Ms. Pelosi not end up being up for the task as the house speaker?

1. Asking for monolithic thought in DU ....
Is a ludicrous notion ....

Case in point: Do we all like anchovies on pizza ? .... Do we all NOT like them on pizza ? ....

Hmmmm ..... can you imagine ALL of DU agreeing on something like this ?

Why do you imagine that ?

4. For Cindy -- and Pelosi -- and Democrats -- And Greens
Cindy has done a wonderful job and when you look at most movements they are generally powered from outside of government -- See: Howard Zinn

Cindy has been very effective.
And, I have no problem if she wants now to take public office.

However, I don't think that weakening Democrats further by challenging Pelosi is the way.
Nor would the trade-off for CA re "speakership" be too smart.

Cindy could run against the guy who is now involved in the Abramhoff scandal -- Is he a Rep or Sen?
Why not knock out a Republican?

I'm for Democrats and Pelosi -- if they're freeing themselves from corporate control.
If they want to be truly progressive/liberal.

I'm not for the DLC -- and Gore and Clinton founded it!!!
Why in the hell do we have a conservative organization in the Democratic Party?

I'm also for the Greens -- though they haven't managed more than 10% of any government internationally.

I think we need an ace in the hole.
The Nader/Green platform was fantastic -- anyone ever read it????

We also need IRV voting --
Whether you're a Democrat, Green or Republican or anything else, you should recognize that.

I'm against Democrats co-opting the Greens or trying to stop third party movements.

17. I like what you have to say. Sadly, you and I will need asbestos suits for
saying anything like this.

As for IRV, it is not my favorite plurality voting alternative. Here are some of the election reforms I am interested in: http://www.hostdiva.com/liberalchristians/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=116&Itemid=29&limit=1&limitstart=1

6. Pelosi... is being a politician. Sheehan will not find the support she
needs to replace Pelosi, nor does she have the... gravity of sentiment... required to take Pelosi's place. In short, we must recognize the facts of the situation and act prudently. I admire, applaud and appreciate what Sheehan has done. Do I believe these accomplishments translate into political wisdom? Not necessarily. At the same time I respect Pelosi and continue to believe she is acting on our behalf, as intelligently and effectively as she's able. She's not making any useless gestures and... nor would I in her place.

IOW, I'm for Sheehan, but not as a replacement for Pelosi.

11. If she runs, she needs to run as a Democrat
If she runs as an independent, she is no better than Nader and Lieberman.

25. In the long run, no
Lieberman won reelection, but his influence has waned considerably. He still chairs his committee and he still does his constituent services. But his ability to influence public events or to sway the votes of his colleagues on either side of the aisle is noteably diminished. The rantings about Iran are a symptom of a man who doesn't matter very much any more.

You're not some newbie. You can read. You obviously know some are "for" Cindy and some are "against".

So what exactly was the purpose of starting this thread, other than to make yourself look foolish (in which case you've succeeded).

22. I admire Ms Sheehan, but she's really shooting at the wrong target.
She sees Pelosi as her principle roadblock and so spend effort on ankle biting Pelosi. Any direct challente to Pelosi is doomed, of course, and will only serve to marginalize Sheehan. What a tremendous waste of her voice and her talent and the bully pulpit that Sheehan commands due to the extreme sacrifice her family has made for this country.

If Cindy Sheehan could figure out how to discipline her message and speak out against the war to middle America, she could move mountains in terms of drawing this stupid occupation to an end. Instead she engages in the old practice of feeding on our own. What a shame.

Pelosi, like all good politicians, is a creature of her environment. If you want to move Pelosi, you have to change the environment--the political imperatives of what makes her successful or not. That means building public support against the war, not going after Pelosi herself.
