The Black America's PAC (7% to Democrats, 93% to Republicans)
http://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/pacgot.asp?strID=C00300921&Cycle=2006

Are there any actual "Black Americans" on the "Black America's PAC" recipient list?

Chocola, Chris (R-IN) $1,000
Davis, Geoff (R-KY) $1,000
Espy, Chuck (D-MS) $1,000
Feeney, Tom (R-FL) $500
Ferguson, Mike (R-NJ) $1,000
Kalogianis, Chuck (D-FL) $1,000
Parker, Sherman (R-MO) $1,000
Rogers, Mike (R-MI) $500
Sali, William T (R-ID) $1,000
Allen, George (R-VA) $2,000
Bouchard, Michael J (R-MI) $5,000
Ensign, John (R-NV) $1,000
Santorum, Rick (R-PA) $2,000
Steele, Michael (R-MD) $8,975
Talent, James M (R-MO) $2,000

And how evil does Chuck Kalogianis (D-FL) have to be to qualify as their ONLY Democratic recipient since at least 1998?

2006- 7% to Democrats, 93% to Republicans
2007- 0% to Democrats, 100% to Republicans
2002- 0% to Democrats, 100% to Republicans
2000- 0% to Democrats, 100% to Republicans
1998- 0% to Democrats, 98% to Republicans

1. Interesting.
Espy, Chuck (D-MS) $1,000

That 2006 support was when Espy, black, ran against veteran US Rep. Bennie Thompson, also black, now the chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.

This gang is lucky the truth in advertising laws don't apply to PACs.

They seem to have pulled their horns in a little: their web site is gone.

Firefox can't find the server at www.bampac.org.

And their ways are known:

2. Is Black Americans PAC really an Astroturf Afroturf campaign?
I mean, looking at the list of politicians they donated to, I think that I am more "black" than The African Americans PAC.

There has got to be something worth looking into here.

Some kind of strange story behind this PAC.

I'm gonna go a'googling.

Black America's PAC
From SourceWatch

Black America's Political Action Committee (BAMPAC) supports conservative policies and African-American candidates. Its name misleadingly suggests that it represents the point of view of African-Americans, but in fact opinion polls and voting patterns show that the vast majority of African-Americans disagree with BAMPAC's political positions.

BAMPAC claims to be nonpartisan, but its IRS tax statement explicitly states that its mission is to elect Republicans.

PR affiliations include Bruce Eberle, Tarrance Group and the National Center for Public Policy Research

BAMPAC is aggressively pursuing our issue advocacy program in the national, regional and local media. As part of that effort, President & CEO Alvin Williams regularly pens opinion and editorial articles that articulate a common sense approach to politics and government. Read the following articles, and check back regularly for new commentary and insight from BAMPAC

Whatever Happened to PLAN A?
Alvin Williams

In a recent ruling, The Food and Drug Administration approved over the counter access to the controversial PLAN B birth control pill for women 18 and over. Prior to this recent decision, PLAN B, otherwise known as the “morning after” pill was only available via prescription. While some view this ruling as only a slight policy shift by the FDA regarding PLAN B, this is a decision that will have momentous ramifications on several levels. Primarily, the message this sends to our youth and society in general is that should you decide to make an irresponsible decision one night, you can go to your local drug store for a solution.
Increasing accessibility to the so-called “morning-after” pill represent a societal concession of sexual irresponsibility being a norm that cannot be changed. This concession shifts the focus from teaching young people the values necessary for them to make sound decisions to creating additional options to employ once unsound decisions are made. In doing so, we are not taking the time to address the issues that lead youth and young adults to seek the “morning after” pill and other means of terminating pregnancies.

Rather than following this pattern of creating “options” once unsound decisions are made, it is time that we enact a different approach. This approach, -- our own PLAN A --- starts with instilling values in our young people. Instilling these values will lead to our youth making more informed moral decisions generally and specifically in the matter of sexual activity. This is not as viable an option to many, because it requires a substantial investment of time and energy and the results are not always guaranteed. Values cannot be quickly purchased at the local drug store after an evening of indiscretion; rather values are instilled over time in small dosages that can be administered by parents, teachers, clergy, elders and others.

As we refocus on PLAN A – it is important to analyze and isolate the factors influencing teens and young adults to be sexually irresponsible. One area of profound influence on youth and young adults is the entertainment industry. These images portrayed in music, film and on the Internet have a direct influence on the moral development of our youth and the decisions they make generally and more specifically their sexual decisions.

Earlier this month, the RAND Corporation released a national study of youth aged 12-17 in which they found that those who listened to a large amount of music with highly sexual content were twice as likely to have sexual intercourse within two years than those who did not. The research suggested that the recurring sexual themes in this music encourages young boys to be relentless in the pursuit of sex and encourages young women to view themselves as sex objects. It is more than likely that similar results would occur if the influence of sexual themes in films, televisions, and the Internet among youth were measured. This leads credence to the idea that we must work to address the issue of the negative influences in film, music, television, and the Internet on our children. Measures such as TV ratings and technological improvements such as the V-chip and parental controls on internet access are a great start, and will work even better when they compliment values and morals being modeled and taught to young people in the home.

Another aspect of our PLAN A should be additional education on the other risks involved with sexual irresponsibility. The problem with the focus on increasing accessibility to the “morning after” pill is that it does not address the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases as potential outcomes of sexual irresponsibility. PLAN B gives a false sense of security to sexually active youth and young adults who only focus on the fact that there is an additional alternative to averting unwanted pregnancies. This sense of security leads them to forget about the other risks associated with sexual irresponsibility, which could yield deadly results.

In the aftermath of FDA decision regarding PLAN B, it is of the utmost importance that we as a society be equally committed to a different plan of action in regards to encouraging our young people to make sound moral decisions. We must have a PLAN A that instills values and morals while also counteracting the influence of outside sources on our youth. In doing so, we restore the focus on PLAN A – personal responsibility.

Alvin Williams is president and chief executive officer of Black America's Political Action Committee (BAMPAC).

BAMPAC's 1999
National Poll of African American Registered Voters
Executive Summary
BAMPAC is pleased to present the following initial findings from our national survey of African Americans across the United States. BAMPAC commissioned The Tarrance Group to conduct a telephone survey of 800 African American adults throughout the country. A random sample of this type is likely to yield a margin of error of +3.5%. Responses to the survey were gathered May 17-19, 1999.

Our initial impression is that our survey has yielded fantastic results. While our expectations of the study were guarded, the level of support for many of BAMPAC’s issues and positions were higher than most of us ever expected. This summary will go over some the key points that we saw as noteworthy.

Issues that effect children and community are the top concerns of black Americans. Most want their elected officials to deal with the issues of public education (20%), fighting crime and drugs (16%) and restoring strong moral values (12%). Issues like Social Security, Medicare, jobs and unemployment are not significantly strong among blacks. This is intriguing since conventional wisdom might suggest that blacks are more concerned about government programs and services than value-laden issues.

In a startling and revealing result, nearly half (47%) of black Americans think the Democratic Party has taken them for granted. These individuals are more likely to include older women at home, those from a traditional family, independents, and those concerned about the crime problem.

But more than two-thirds (72%) of think that the Republicans have ignored the African American community. African Americans themselves say that Republicans could have a chance at capturing the black vote if they would do things like;

Improving their stance toward minorities (15%)
Helping people more (9%)
Showing more interest in the community (5%)

As might be expected for an organization that is less than ten years old, BAMPAC has a long way to go in terms of informing Black Americans about its mission and stances on the issues. In response to an open-ended question, only about 14% were able to identify the organization correctly. But, after hearing a series of BAMPAC’s statements and positions on issues, two-thirds (67%) of Black Americans were left with a positive impression of the organization. In fact, only 10% were left with a negative impression. Not surprisingly, the organization’s stance on education was the most important in leaving people with such a positive impression.

We conducted two series of issue and position evaluations of BAMPAC. In the first series, we used a ten-point scale for African Americans to voice their level of favorable or unfavorable feelings toward BAMPAC based on specific statements. From this, we learned that black Americans were very favorable toward BAMPAC’s position on crime, abortion, school choice and affirmative action. These issues provided the basis for the group’s two-third positive response in the first evaluation.

Several messages were evaluated for their ability to move Black Americans toward a more positive impression of BAMPAC. Both in terms of overall reaction to the message and the ability of this message to move people, the following message was far more influential than any other; "Promoting strong more values, like personal responsibility and honesty, are the best chance we have of improving most of our society’s problems."

It should come as no surprise that the messages that Black Americans are most likely to be influenced by the education issue. For this reason, we would recommend that the education issue remain central to the BAMPAC message as individuals begin to gain an initial impression of the organization.

After hearing these additional messages about BAMPAC, we are able to leave three-quarters (75%) of the respondents with a positive impression of the organization. But it is important to point out that most of the "movement," with regard to impressions of BAMPAC, has less to do with making the respondent feel positive toward BAMPAC but more to do with solidifying opinion. Therefore, perhaps our most important objective is to solidify a positive impression after individuals first hear about BAMPAC.

It should also be noted that one of the most positive responses throughout the survey is on the issue of abortion. Eighty-two percent (82%) of respondents report that they favor parental consent for a minor seeking an abortion. In addition, nearly half (48%) of Black Americans hold a pro-life position on abortion as 35% think "abortion should be illegal except for cases such as rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is in danger" and 13% think "abortion should be illegal and prohibited under all circumstances."

This message pyramid is a simple means to map the direction of conversation about BAMPAC. As with our questionnaires, communicating with and to people should travel on a path of broad to narrow. Using "big picture" language based on "values" and "faith" are an excellent means to attract positive attention from African Americans – the survey proves they respond well. We would like to see a effort to reinforce those positive attitudes by engaging in a discussion that delves into such issues as education and community involvement to solve their concerns about the economy, public safety and children.

BAMPAC MOURNS THE LOSS OF
MRS. CORETTA SCOTT KING

Washington, DC – Black America’s PAC (BAMPAC) In a statement released today, Black America’s Political Action Committee (BAMPAC) joined the nation and world in mourning the loss of Mrs. Coretta Scott King, renowned activist, leader and widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“A void is left in our hearts from the loss of such an extraordinary person whose impact was realized throughout the world. Mrs. King dedicated her life to the pursuit of equality and through her life’s work, generations of African Americans have been able to realize the freedom of America. Mrs. King was a devoted wife and mother who worked tirelessly to spearhead the efforts to continue to build upon the advances in the civil rights movements after her husband’s assassination. The legacy of Mrs. King and others in the civil rights movement is an inspiration and foundation upon which our organization was built and we are forever grateful for their contributions. We will continue to work to ensure that her legacy of service will live on forever,” said Alvin Williams, BAMPAC President and CEO.

Running for Office Is Costly
Financial disclosure forms reveal how much was spent in campaign.

According to the forms, Van Fleet contributed $5,000 of his own money, and Cleveland and Euille transferred funds from previous campaign accounts. Euille started with about $25,000 and Cleveland with around $10,000. Cleveland received some Political Action Committee funds from U.S. Rep. Tom Davis’ PAC and from the Black Americans’ PAC.
Euille received funds from two labor unions. Both Euille and Van Fleet obtained contributions, both in-kind and in money, from their own companies.

Re: Swann to seek GOP nomination
On December 6th, 2005 pghtory says:

Mr. Swann technically hasn't even announced yet, but he's apparently thrown a healthy scare into you. Are you working for his campaign? Interesting that you seem to have the heads-up on his platform. Let's summarize - if elected, Swann will gut all business/environmental regulation, eliminate government spending altogether, eliminate minimum wages and abolish unions, throw sick and frail seniors out into the cold (preferably on Inauguration Day - perhaps it'll be a celebratory activity), encourage violence against homosexuals and pregnant teenagers, and (if there is any time or energy remaining) institute a "Slavery for the 21st Century" initiative in our beloved Keystone State.

They spent a huge bulk of their money on things other than candidate donations.

Looks like they are spent a million dollars on direct mailers in 2006.

And I bet they were full of factoids and truthiness.
