Backers drive on as Dean sputters
Though Dean has backed away from a pledge to pull out of the race if he doesn't win the Wisconsin primary on Tuesday (he trails in the polls there), it seems unlikely that he will continue the quest for the nomination if he doesn't win any of the super Tuesday contests on March 2.

SNIP

Although the Feb. 4 Austin meet-up followed defeats in the first nine primary states, Dean devotees still turned out. At Scholz Garten, Glen Maxey, the former state representative who leads the Dean for Texas organization, offered a lengthy chalk talk on caucus night strategy to about 100 people.

But as Dean struggles and a John Kerry nomination seems more likely, Maxey has been shifting his message.

"This isn't just about Howard Dean for us," Maxey said. "It's about reinvigorating and rebuilding the Democratic Party. We don't close down and go home if Dean doesn't win Wisconsin."

2. Here's a guy who may come in 3rd in Wisconsin backing away from his pledge

to drop out. His supporters are sending campaign contributions in a steady flow. Dean should not miss the opportunity to demonstrate that there can be honor in defeat.

3. I gotta warn the Dean crew here
If Dean loses in Wisconsin and doesn't drop out, watching television will be a brutal experience for Dean supporters. It has been hard to avoid the number of nails these CNN guys have pounded into Dean's coffin after every primary. They're really enjoying themselves. But because Dean (mistakenly, imho) stated he'd be gone if he didn't win WI, the TV guys will literally be howling like monkeys.

My advice to Dean backers: Shoot your television on Monday night. You want to part of that.

4. Don't SHOOT your TV!
Because chances are the bullet will bounce off the thick glass on the front of the picture tube and head back in your direction.

The CORRECT way to kill a TV is (after removing power of course) is to take the back off and pry away the circuit board which included the picture tube socket. This may be secured with adhesive which you will need to cut away. Then using a pair of pliers, crush the glass at the very end of the neck of the tube. This releases the vacuum in the tube with a satisfying whoosh and the TV is now safe for disposal. Of course, wear appropriate eye protection and all that.

Seriously, I would no more get my news from TV than I would drink out of the toilet.

6. Who cares?
Will, I don't watch TV anyway. I think those of us who have stayed throughout this campaign aren't going to quit just because of some negative publicity on TV. Do you think we are as shallow as the US sheeple? Thanks for the warnings in this post and the thread you posted. We sure will heed them!

If Dean drops out, I'll vote for him on our March 9th Texas primary anyway. I'm a precinct chair and I'm letting all my precinct voters know I'm going for Dean no matter what. I'm not going to just lay down and give in to a Kerry nomination just because that's what the sheeple decided. TV or no TV.
