5. Geez, Mary.... that was awesome! |
|
The Katie Couric anecdote was really telling, too. I guess she has finally gotten her reward for not writing that book, huh? She has a nice, cushy anchor job now, but at the cost of her integrity!
I love your Op-Eds! Keep 'em coming.

6. I went to hear Michael Moore speak locally, the December after |
|
"Fahrenheit 911" came out. He told that story to the audience - a packed house, even then, AND with John Dean of Watergate (and now findlaw.com) fame sharing the stage with him. What a great night!!! Btw - the titter that arose from the audience after he shared that anecdote was quite noticeable, and audible as I recall.

9. Another great article Calimary |

I thank you for sharing these and look forward to more. As usual, well thought out. I was amazed to see the few Moore detractors who posted on the you-tube link... felt the need to say something there but was severely constrained by the 500 word minimum. There are folks from all over the world actually looking at that link, I hope those same folks do not think that the few anti-Moore posters represent mainstream America.
btw.: May I recommend a book to you: "SEX, LIES & POLITICS The Naked Truth" by Larry Flynt. Like Michael Moore, Larry Flynt has been pealing back the veils of secrecy within our system and revealing a system rife with hypocrisy. He is currently working on outing perhaps as many as 30 of those hypocrites before the next election. (I look forward to it!) In essence this man is fighting hard for Democracy in America yet he flies under the radar of most who only can think of him as a "Smut Peddler" or as someone who has exploited folks for personal gain. He has been spoken well of by such heroes to Democracy as: Robert Sheer, Cody Shearer, Catherine Crier, Greg Palast, Erica Jong, Liz Smith, and Molly Ivins. (Each wrote a recommendation about Mr. Flynt on the back of the book I have suggested to you).
Here is quote from that book which should be especially poignant for you as a writer: "In this country, we've got maybe two million people who read, but nearly three hundred million people with opinions." If you are not familiar with this book, seek out a copy. I suspect that you will find it an important read and along the way, you may discover another important American hero.

10. Thank you, my friend! Actually, I've watched Larry Flynt do his muckraking thing |
|
for a long time. He long ago outgrew the label "porn publisher." I'm a fan, but wasn't up to speed on his book.
Y'know, there's wallowing in filth and wallowing in filth. And for those Puritans in the room whose delicate sensibilities are offended by him, well... maybe it takes wallowing in "filth" to dig up some of the hypocritical obscenities that America really NEEDS to know and damned well better be informed about. Hell, at least he knows what to look for, and what to look around. Lies and hypocrisy and intolerance and narrowmindedness are pretty filthy, too.
