I suspect Dennis might be making a "staement" about it not being immediate, which is a stupid thing to do at this point.
Edit Conyers did vote with the Dems.I misread it!

7. yeah, this is confusing
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 11:09 PM by MonkeyFunk
there was a related resolution, and Conyers voted on that but evidently not on the bill itself.

And in the other one, Kucinich didn't vote, but Conyers voted Aye.

Here's the procedural vote:

2. I think Kucinich wants an immediate withdrawl or none at all
Can anyone correct me on/corroborate that?

As for Conyers, I'm bereft of clue.

9. I wonder when this happened, this idea...
...that because in a democracy a person gets a vote, or can have any opinion they want, that they are entitled to always getting what they want, and if they make a stubborn enough display, it will happen eventually. And if the stubborn display ends up screwing things up more, it's completely everyone else's fault. I wonder when that idea crept in. It's like a spoiled brat version of democracy.

10. But don't you see?
Kucinich voted No, but for good reasons.

All the rotten Republicans voted No, but for bad reasons.

The outcome is exactly the same - he sided with the Republicans, but the action was noble when DK did it, but venal when the Repubs did it.

At least, that's how it appears to people who have no clue about politics. A no vote is a no vote - regardless of reasons.

14. "Hail Mary" Democrats...
Go for the long touchdown on every play...too impatient for a ground game...

When's the last time you saw a football team win a game going for the endzone on every play?

11. The bill still passed, though
If Kucinich had been the deciding vote, I might feel differently, but I'd recommend letting him have his numinous integrity on this one. I didn't vilify Kerry for his IWR vote, I don't feel inclined to wail on Dennis over this. One vote doesn't erase a consistent record of correct decisions.

13. then you have to give a pass
to every individual Republican who voted against it, too. Regardless of motive, a no vote is a no vote. Kucinich voted with the republicans.
