----
Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Senator John Edwards released the following statement about the death of former first lady Lady Bird Johnson.

1. A gracious statement. I'm thinking that Mrs. Johnson must have been
a pretty sturdy soul to withstand a marriage to and public life with her husband.

He was no shy flower, LBJ.

For me, LadyBird's legacy is that of a woman of great strength planting gentle blossoms. If LBJ had to follow John Kennedy, she had to follow Jackie.

Not an easy assignment.
