Are there any DUers here from Nebraska? (Nelson) |
|
I am asking because Nelson seems to be so damn unDem that there MUST be some viable competition. Or is Nebraska the kind of place where a Republican can get a job by calling himself a Democrat? http://electioncentral.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2007/jul/12/happy_hour_roundup

1. Here's the funny thing, Nebraska was once upon a time a solidly |
|
Democratic state. Back in the day when Kennedy was running/elected, this place was as democratic as you can get.
But then the Civil and Equal Rights Amendments came along. That killed it.
That's what it's like here in old white farmer "live is SUPPOSED" to be hard (but don't forget my subsidy check) here in the 'Heartland'.

5. Wow, then you got shortchanged on you education even worse than |
|
most of us did.
Read up on the Civil Rights fight. It started out as a REPUBLICAN issue. But then reality set in and the (white male) repubs decided that women and minorities were getting too damn uppity so they dropped it like a hot potatoe and the Dems took up the issue. And worked very very hard. And lost whatever base they had here in Nebraska.

6. Good Grief - I Was Thinking Voting Rights |

Of course it was Johnson with Civil Rights. But Equal Rights as in ERA never has been passed unless Bush did it while I was sleeping and I doubt that.(Although, it would be a great ploy to take away from his current dilemma.)

8. Equal Rights is rearing it's head here lately. But no, it never was |
|
passed.
And are the old (and not so old) angry white men here in Nebraska happy about that one.

4. I know he almost makes me like Hagel. |

But with a huge percentage of votes coming from outside the lincoln-omaha areas we can't really get progressive ideals through. I don't know anybody that supports * but apparently a lot of people here do because we are in the Bible belt how the hell does this happen...country bumpkins.
I realize to some people outside of Omaha this may sound odd that I am making fun of small town folks because most people think we drive tractors around all day.
