Explaining Michael Chertoff's counterterrorism stomach.

You have by now heard the remark - instantly added to our through-the-looking-glass lexicon of the 21st century, a time when we suddenly started referring to this country as "the homeland," as if anybody here has used that term since Charles Lindbergh or the German-American Bund in 1940.

Michael Chertoff's "gut feeling."

Which, he took pains to emphasize, was based on no specific nor even vague intelligence that we are entering a period of increased risk of terrorism here.

He got as specific as saying that al-Qaida seems to like the summer, but as to the rest of it, he is perfectly content to let us sit and wait and worry - and to contemplate his gut.

1. It seems to me

that Osama likes to strike when there is a turnover of power. It happened when Clinton first took office, it happened when Gordon Brown took office and it happened when Bush took office. I think he likes to take advantage of the confusion associated with a turnover of power. But maybe that's just me.

2. That ssure does seem true, except you NEVER hear that from

anyone in power! It's actually a good plan too. The Country is distracted, the new guys are still feeling their way around the new office, and all the Departments have NEW leaders! Sounds like a GREAT OPPORTUNITY to me!

3. There is not yet any proof

That Osama and Co. had anything to do with these assclowns in doctors' smocks over in the UK.

when you get right down to it, there still isn't any specific proof that bin Laden was involved with the other two, either. Sure, he has taken credit (after the fact), but so have several others.

Regardless, it is true that these 'moments of opportunity' are when we should all be a bit more on guard. The last thing we should do, however, is listen to King of the Zombies Chertoff and his rumbling gut.

for anyone wishing to commit terrorism. I never listen to the craven crowd in this administration - they are pathological liars.
