5. That's right, Edwards and Clinton just gave him a
nicely wrapped gift. Don't know what it's worth right now, but it was free.

8. I'd say
about 15 minutes or so ;)

Dennis can be outraged but good grief when the margin of error is taken into account, there isn't a statistically significant difference between his numbers and mine.

16. I'm not a Kucinich supporter - but I have to defend him
He was not outraged at all.
Very calm.
Very well-spoken.

If anything, he gained from all of this.

He was even given the opportunity to speak out against Hillary and Edwards, and he didn't take the bait.
He called them his friends and said he would love to have a debate with the three of them.

18. He was a gentleman.
I thought he presented it as disappointment rather than anger, so he came off looking very good.

19. I didnt say he was outraged
just that he's milking this, understandably, but at the end of the day, there's little IMO to be outraged about.

He gained from this sure...about 15 minutes :)

20. That is not the point.......how well Kucinich is polling.......
In fact, his polling numbers are a symptom of the problem, really. The fact that we have a trumpeted top tier who get all of the free media ink is deplorable. Limiting who debates only add insult to injury to our political system. We talk about re-instating the "Fairness Doctrine".....and this Edwards/Clinton nonsense cuts right into the heart of that notion.....

Kucinich on health care. That would be worth watching IMO.

15. or HOW we got into Iraq! Now that would be revealing......
But in all seriousness, I would suggest a better solution than Edwards'; debating one issue would be a better manner in controlling debate time. Give each participant 5 minutes to answer each question specific to a one topic debate instead of 60 seconds.

21. ROFL yeah an IWR debate,
not likely is right, but I like your idea about one issue debates. Something really should be done about the format so they all have a chance to get their platform across better.

23. Did Kucinich come out AGAINST limiting the number of debators?
Edited on Fri Jul-13-07 07:08 PM by draft_mario_cuomo
Currently, the "serious" 8--including Kucinich--are all colluding to exclude these 11 Democratic candidates for president. Surely Kucinich, with his principled stand on this issue, is opposed to this practice. I am sure he has repeatedly tried to change the format and denounced the rigging publicly in the past.

Warren Ashe (D-Virginia)
Randy Crow (D-North Carolina)
Laura Davis-Aaron (D-Tennessee)
Michael Forrester (D-Colorado)
Dan Francis (D-New York)
Alfonzo Jones (D-California)
John Joseph Kennedy (D-Georgia)
Karl Krueger (D-South Dakota)
Sal Mohamed (D-Iowa)
James Prattas (D-Hawaii)
Ole Savior (D-Minnesota)

25. Apples & oranges
Kucinich is a successful politician who won his first election in 1969, and has been in Congress seven terms.

Ole Savior is an artist who lives here in south Minneapolis and often runs for governor or us senate, as his whims (or is it art?) dictate. Ole appears to mean well but he can have problems making sense.

I've seen both Dennis and Ole speak plenty of times, but never at the same time. It would be pretty entertaining, a contrast between the eminently sensible and the nonsensical.

26. So you are saying some candidates are not "serious" and should be excluded?
This is exactly what Kucinich claims to oppose. The fact is all of those candidates are with the MoE of Kucinich, as well as a few other candidates.

27. No, I'm not saying that candidates should be excluded
I would however say Ole is not serious, but that is based on my personal experience with the man. But here in the MN DFL we don't exclude Ole. In 2006 he ran for governor for the third time and put his name into nomination at the state DFL convention. He got his minutes on stage at the mike just like the "serious" candidates--Hatch, Lourey and Kelley. It resulted in one delegate voting for him of the 1200 convention delegates. Ole lives in my state senate district so I get to see him included in my senate district and congressional district conventions as statewide candidate for something every two years and I have no problem with his inclusion. As for Dennis, I was a national delegate for him in 2004 so I'm biased. I don't fault Dennis for pointing out the nomination is rigged to pick moneyed corporate candidates and admire him for believing he can win nonetheless.

24. I am thankful that DK is up there.
He's clearly a man of principle, doesn't attack other individuals but attacks their positions. Is right on all the issues IMO.

He has shown the same commitment to principle thru-out his career I think, in particular when he refused to sell MUNY in Cleveland even tho there was a hit out on him by mafia figures and he was saved from assassination only by a coincidental ulcer problem that kept him from attending a parade that day. He faced down the banks that refused to fund the city, lost his political career rather than capitulate to the moneyed elite in their demands that he sell MUNY. He showed no animosity then and shows none now at those who so wrongfully treated him.

He may be wrong on an issue, but if he is it's because he is sincerely convinced that the position he is taking is the best one for people.

I'm going to stick with him and even contribute to his campaign until he's no longer a candidate. Then, I'll find the next best candidate and support him.

Meanwhile, DK will have done more than probably any other candidate and probably IMO anybody in the Dem party to move the debate in the direction that would be most helpful to people in foreign affairs and health care and election reform and workers' rights and the environment.
