After the 2004 election we were told that George Bush took office because of a group of people the media called the "values voters". Many people around these parts were upset at those words, but I have to admit the media did come pretty close to the truth.
These people may not have been values voters, but chop off the s in the word values and you get an accurate description of what these voters were, they were the value voters.
They believed that it was a good value to go to war without having to pay for it themselves, they could simply watch the fireworks and get their grandkids to pay for it. They felt it was a great value to no longer have to pay for tickets to see people get blown up in the latest Hollywood blockbuster when instead they could just sit on their couch and watch the explosions on FOX News, and they believed that it would not cost them a dime. In fact they were not only going to get watch this frag fest for free, they were going to get a tax cut. Sure the deficit might sky rocket, but by the time it needed to be paid back they would be dead so who cares what those young people might have to bear the burden of?
The war was not the only thing they saw as being a great value though, they also saw that they could make economic gains by cutting aid to the poor. After all, it is not like they had to live poverty so why should they care if other people are homeless as long they get their Hummer to drive around in? Who cares if there are children on the streets who are starving, as long as the rich can get their tax cuts we know they will let their bread crumbs trickle down on that child's head right?
It was such a great value for them to cut back on education as well, they had already either finished school or flunked out so who cares about those kids who are in the education system right now? Just because adults paid for their education when they were children does not mean they should pay for the children who are receiving an education today.
And if all those great values were not enough, they had an even greater net value that awaited them if they simply towed the administration line. You see this administration loved the loyalty of their friends and were more than willing to give those friends payback. Just look at Halliburton, if this administration likes you enough you are sure to get a no-bid contract no matter what your qualifications or questionable history.
You see to the value voters moral values did not matter. They had no problem bringing down the poor or the minorities, they had no problem sending people off to die in an illegal war, they had no problem supporting torture, as long as their taxes were low they were getting a good value. They were the value voters.
