The War is Over!
If the Iraqi Parliament vacations during the month of August while (typically) 100+ American troops die, that is IT! Even the most adament supporters will relent. THE END IS NEAR!

12. that is the lamest damned excuse -- really offensive
Edited on Sat Jul-14-07 01:07 PM by DeadElephant_ORG

At the White House meanwhile, spokesman Tony Snow admitted Iraq's lawmakers would take a summer break -- despite their bad report card from Washington. "You know, it's 130 degrees (54 Celsius) in Baghdad in August," Snow said.

It's not 130 degrees inside parliament - it's 130 degrees for our soldiers in their streets! Are we to believe that the Iraqi parliament building lacks air-conditioning? Perhaps our troops should take a vacation...

2. I am most likely being dense...
But I'm not following your line of reasoning...

Could you enlarge upon your argument?

I'd sure like to see some hope in this mess!

Thanks....

3. this is it
why should we fight & die for 'freedom & democracy' for which they have so little regard for? It's so elemental..but then again so monumental. Am I the only indivdual who see this as a huge thing?

5. Ah, thank you!
I see your point now...

But do you really think we're there to give them freedom and democracy?

I don't think we are...

10. I agree. This could be a really big thing.

Imagine the images of the empty chairs in parliament juxtaposed with images of our troops in their streets. The meme on the right in recent weeks is that the war was a good idea and that we didn't fail, but it's gone badly because those damned rag-heads didn't want freedom enough to fight for it. That's utter crap, obviously. But right-wingers are looking for any reason to get the hell out of there (cut-and-run), and these images might give them that.

18. Maybe they lack motivation....
if oil companies are taking over the $10 trillion oil fields, then oil companies may as well run the country.

4. I agree with you in theory it should be over if they're not interested
enough to get that oil law written up! :sarcasm: Our own Congress will be out to. Members of the Iraqi parliament aren't there all that much in normal scheduling. It should be over but the die hards won't relent.

7. Unfortunately, it's not. And it's not a war, it's an occupation.
We are basically playing police cop over there...one of the greatest dangers is the thinking that this, like a war, can be "won" militarily.
