She is so wonderfully aware of so many situations.

She alone from the Senate spoke out about the election being stolen, endorsing the Black Caucus and allowing them to speak to the floor in Congress.

She understands that the War in Iraq is a failure and she considers impeachment (As a Senator her role is limited UNTIL the House wakes up out of its slumber and puts Impeachment on the table.)

1. She's a good Senator, but in all fairness, she's just doing her job!
I don't think that warrants roses!

Not for Senators who get paid to represent their constituents and do their jobs.

10. Helen Thomas gets paid to be a journalist...
So really she's just doing her job as well. Since so many senators as well as journalists don't do their jobs, I think it's good to show our appreciation for those that do.

17. No, she gets paid to be a COLUMNIST now. And she's the only one in that
press room with any "guts"--Chertoff notwithstanding.

Believe me, Boxer got four thousand roses recently. As did all of her colleagues, when they voted themselves that $4K raise. They give themselves a nice gift like that every year, more or less.

Iran War Amendment.

Which apparently will have the effect of removing the need for authorization to go to war.

But a military attack on Iran "justified" by Iranian attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq, rather than by the unrelated-to-Iraq "threat" of Iran's nuclear program, would not require any new Congressional authorization, so the administration and its followers would argue. Under this scenario, such an attack would be but a part of the already-authorized war in Iraq, merely a means of defending U.S. troops engaged in that Congressionally-authorized military action. Thus, this reasoning goes, the President already has all the authority he needs to order such an attack on Iran, and there would be no need to persuade anyone of anything in order to commence it.

I can't seem to find the recorded vote for this. I didn't find it on the Senate site and I don't know what # to look for but the vote was 97-0. I'd really like to know who abstained from voting and why. And I plan on giving Levin and my senators hell for this.

Edited on Sat Jul-14-07 01:49 AM by MADem
The three not voting would be

VITTER--hiding out.

JOHNSON--in hospital recovering from brain insult.

CRAIG Thomas (R-WY)--dead. Died in June.

39. No one voted AGAINST that bad boy. I will admit I have not read the actual WORDS of the thing
so I can't really get all outraged about what it says. It could range from "Iran is populated by vampire Ayatullahs who want to EAT CHRISTIAN AND JEWISH BABIES" to something as inocuous as "Dear Iran, Please Don't Run Around Killing American Soldiers on Patrol in Iraq" -- but likely, whatever it is falls somewhere BETWEEN those two extremes!

If you do decide to gin something up on it, shoot me a note so I can have a peek--thanks in advance!

18. Give a gift to a poor person or a worthwhile charity in her honor, then.
You do some good and "recognize" her at the same time.

That's a way to say your Thank You in a useful way, rather than sending vegetation that will die and rot in short order.

IMO.

Congratulations on being the one to type it!! You've taken the cake!

"Just because you HATE beauty..." :eyes:

Give me a fucking break. How do you extrapolate that because I think sending flowers to politicians is a waste of money, that I "hate beauty?"

What twisted, pathetic, lame and wanting thought process brought you to that halfassed false dichotomy?

You know what I think is beautiful? Kids who don't go to bed hungry. Old people getting medical care. Homeless people being sheltered and fed. That's real beauty. Not empty "jump on board" gestures by bored partisans, especially when they've ALREADY BEEN DONE.

Why don't you just stop trying to figure out what I hate, and don't hate, eh? You're not successful at it, and you make yourself look like a complete and utter fool.

15. I'd love to see virtual flowers sent
"Instead of flowers, we sent a donation in your name to: ______________" written out on a giant cut-out of a rose, or something.

A little corny, but there are so many people who really do need the help, it'd be nice to aim the money where people need it to survive, and attach it to a symbolic gesture, which is really what the flowers are, after all.

Why should flowers be considered differently? What about a box of chocolates? Would that be okay? Oh, well maybe not since she could eat those. Where do you draw the line?

Their reward for doing what their constituents want while simply doing their job should be a vote next time around and word of mouth to get more votes out for that person.

I feel the same about sending flowers to a journalist. If you want Repubs to whine about how that journalist is clearly in the liberals' pocket then go ahead, send them and give the Repubs ammunition.

Impartiality is key. Sending gifts taints the process.

she lost me when she campaigned and backed Lieberman over Lamont in the last election.

She is one of the reasons we are saddled with that dangerous a**hole right now instead of a real Democrat. You are either part of the solution or part of the problem. She helped elect a BIG part of the problem, and I am still pissed over it.
