The Republicans wouldn't share...So they lost out...
In sunny San Clemente, a street fair was something to look forward to.

And the local Democrats wanted to have a booth for voter registration...

But one was already in place, being run by the local Republicans...

And therein lay the rub...

1. If you can't share, then nobody gets to play!
Sheesh, could it have been so hard to share the booth? If they were encouraging all party affiliates to register, then sharing shouldn't have been a promlem then, hmmmm? Oh wait, we are talking about the repukes. How childish! :eyes:

2. Childish is the word that came to my mind as well!
How hard is it to share?

Apparently it's impossible!

It's all about me, me, me...

For the Republicans, anyway...

3. Welcome to the OC
There are probably close to 500,000 Democrats in Orange County, which has 3 million residents. The problem is those 1,000,000 Republicans.

Behind the Orange Wall, things are different. Think East Berlin.

11. Live in LA, Work in OC
I cross through the Brandenburg/Disneyland Gate every morning on the way to work. It's always surprising how many Progressives there actually are in OC. I've been told by State Democratic Party staff that OC is an important source of Dem votes in statewide elections.

But on the ground, in the OC, on a daily basis -- it's gotta be a lot like East Berlin.

12. When I was growing up, back in the 50's and 60's...
SoCal was uniformly Republican...

It has changed a lot since then...

And it continues to change...

Much bluer now!

Of course, much work needs to be done...

5. Don't EVER trust a REPUKE! EVER!
There is NO way this could stand a court test...

So, for FIFTEEN FUCKING YEARS they had this "arrangement" and wouldn't share, and "cooincidentally" Orange County is fucking REPUKE?!?!

I will bet my life that the repuke were throwing out ALL Democratic registrations. Period.

8. Question...

*snip*

The back-and-forth went on for about a month before Wood became fed up. Last week, she decided there would be no voter registration booth at the fiesta.

Still, she said, she would change her mind on one condition: that the two parties share.

*snip*

Is it legal for an event held in a public, tax-supported venue (public street) to limit political activity to just one party?

Admitting to ignorance on this one...

10. I don't know the answer either...
But perhaps someone will come along who does...

I kind of doubt that it is legal to limit activity to just one party....

But I don't know the law either...

13. I figure they didn't want to share so that they could accidentally
lose the registrations of anybody who didn't claim to be a repuke.

14. My mind also wandered in that direction...
It is a sad state of affairs indeed, when we can think such things...

And be correct at the same time.

18. "...the group's CHAPLAIN is handling the matter"???
"June Kelley, president of the Republican group, said she was unaware of the issue when contacted Friday by The Times. She said her group's chaplain, Adele Donato, was handling the matter. Donato did not return telephone calls seeking comment."

"unaware..."
Yeah, right.
SHUUUURE.

And it's the chaplain's job?
What a wimpy cop-out.

They're trying to duck and cover the best they can...

And it looks just as awful as it is...
