Have you had ENOUGH?
Edited on Sat Jul-14-07 09:08 PM by WesDem

Last Sunday the first ENOUGH! protests took place around the country in groups of two, three, thirty and forty. In several states people took one hour out of their lives and stood alone. In Atlanta, Mike Malloy stood outside the State Capitol Building. In Los Angeles, Cenk Uygur and Wes Clark Jr stood at the Federal Building.

July 8 in Los Angeles

Every Sunday 12 Noon - 1 PM, your time, your town

Show up to say ENOUGH!

If nobody's there, start without them. You are the leader. If there is no nearby location listed, pick a spot in your town, preferably a Federal structure, but where you think best. Bring two friends or stand alone. If you're in a wheelchair sit outside someplace. Just show up wearing something that says ENOUGH! Or carry a sign that says ENOUGH!

This protest is not about a candidate or campaign, no petitions, no chants, no confrontations - it is only about one thing, simply standing up and saying you've had ENOUGH!

You can order t-shirts and other ENOUGH! gear here, here, and download a free bumper sticker here. Meanwhile, Magic Marker works.

Take pictures and email them to Young Turks radio show: theyoungturks@googlegroups.com

Be sure to provide the street location, city and state, so others will know where to join you. If someone who sees you says they will stand with you next week, ask them to bring two other people if they can.

2. I just got my tee shirt today!!
I ordered from PlanetXena -- the cap sleeve tee and it's really really cute and nice! Unfortunately, not one person in my Dem group responded to the email I sent out last week, so last Sunday I didn't do it because I didn't want to do it alone. Well, I then read of several people in different locales who just did it anyways -- alone. So tomorrow I'll be out there with my ENOUGH t-shirt, in front of the main beach in my little village which is where most traffic is -- just me and my dog. Hope to find people who will join me next week. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

6. I'll be standing alone
in Northern Maine tomorrow along Rt. 15. Any Mainers who would like to join me, PM me and I will let you know the spot. Anyway, I was there last week with my homemade t-shirt. It was a very good feeling to let my town know that I've had enough.

13. Do you think folks will interpret the one word as it's meant to be interpreted?
Edited on Sun Jul-15-07 12:16 AM by calteacherguy
Or will they wonder, enough of what?

I am contemplating paticipating tomorrow, and I think the intent is great, but I am just wondering a little bit about the effectiveness of the delivery. On the other hand, if it gets people thinking about "enough of what?" that is a good way to get people to stop and think, I suppose.

14. Let me share
if you wonder about it's effectiveness or anyone doubts that this can grow or get discouraged because you can't find anyone to join you. Let me share something.

Last week I almost talked myself out of heading out to protest. I didn't make my t-shirt until that morning. It was my wifes birthday and I'm going to stand outside for an hour? It isn't like there I can't find something productive to do around home... But I headed downtown and stood outside the courthouse with my cohort, talked to a few people, left feeling I did my little part.

This week my cohort is firm on returning with me but his two have backed out and other than the strangers I talked to last Sunday who I've got know way of reminding them to show up, everyone else I've asked "will try and make it". So I'm mentally preparing myself that it will just be two of us again, trying to stay positive when I read through Wes Jr. latest diary and see someone driving forty miles to stand with us.

I just think that's the coolest thing. Wes Jr. & Cenk share their idea. People in dozens of cities act. WesDem take on the task of listing the locations. And it goes from there.

At any point someone could have listened to the voice that said "what's the point" or "someone else ought to do that" snap, just like that it's forgotten and the world keeps going down the same path. but so far though people are saying they have had enough.

I'm starting to see this as not just Enough of the corruption & contempt from our leaders, but also enough of waiting for someone else to take a stand.

Kudos to you. I'm more of the sign carrrying sort, myself.

"I'm starting to see this as not just Enough of the corruption & contempt from our leaders, but also enough of waiting for someone else to take a stand."

I do like that interpretation. It would be wonderful if this got to the point where the MSM were picking it up.

16. it will be picked up by the news
when hundreds are standing out there in towns across america.
And there will be hundreds out there when people see it can be done.
And they will see it can be done when someone goes out there.
And someone will be there when you've had enough.

Think of the silent audience when the performance goes silent. Everyone wonders 'do I applaud now?'
One person starts to clap and a moment later...

35. Little by little, the news is going out
In Madison WI

I came upon a booth manned by 2 guys that I recognized as radio announcers for our local AAR affiliate, the Mic, at 92.1. As I walked into their booth, they immediately "got it," and asked what was up. I told them briefly about Wes Jr.'s crusade and handed them a printout of his call to arms from Daily Kos. Neither one of them had heard about it, like the rest of the country, but they were highly intrigued by the idea - especially when they noticed that, in Los Angeles, one of the Young Turks was standing with Wes Jr. So, they will be talking about it tomorrow on AAR, 92.1, the Mic; one of the booth sitters has his own morning show running from about 6 a.m. to 8.

21. Where will you stand, if you do?
Street, city, state.

You may find this helpful, in view of your question above:

Wes Clark Jr

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/7/16314/43977

See if anybody asks you what you've had enough of. Don't ask them to sign anything. Don't pitch them a candidate. Just tell them you've had enough of the corruption, incompetence and lawlessness of this administration. Ask them to join you next Sunday in the same place, and bring a sign or wear a t-shirt.

Our signs and shirts are limited to one word: enough. It doesn't matter what color the shirt or sign is (I'm using black on white). We're not going to yell anything or subject people to bad music, long-winded preaching to the choir, or shouting matches with pedestrians or carloads of people who may disagree with us. We're just going to stand there wearing our shirts. If people ask us what we've had enough of we're going to politely tell them we're tired of politicians breaking the law. If they agree with us, we're going to ask them to come back next week and stand with us. That's it. Really simple.

We hope to geometrically build a leaderless movement of people to put pressure on the politicians to stop shredding the Constitution whenever it is politically convenient. By coming back week after week with no draw other than standing with our fellow citizens, we're letting them know we are the kind of dedicated voters willing to put in the time and effort to throw them out on their asses if they can't respect the foundation of our Republic. I'd like to stay home on Sundays for the next eighteen months but I don't think this can wait until the next election: by then the damage will be done and the guilty will walk away, only to re-enter politics with the next swing in the election cycle.

A few other things...

We don't need a permit here in L.A. until we have enough people that they won't all fit on the sidewalk (my guess is we could be a couple months away from that). If you're going to join us, check what the laws are in your own hometown. Don't break the law.

It's hot. Even though it's only an hour, bring water and protect yourself from the sun.

We're not saying you should pick up trash where you protest (although that would be a civic-minded thing to do) but please don't litter.

Don't be a jerk. It only alienates people from what you're trying to say. This one is really hard for me, but if I can do it, you can do it.

28. Sign is a good idea.
I stood today at the main entrance to the public beach, on Lakeshore Blvd, alone in my ENOUGH! t-shirt and not one person even asked "Enough what?" A sign would have made it more obvious I was saying something rather than waiting for someone.

I have sent out an email 2 weeks in a row to my local Dem group, with a link to Wes, Jr's kos diary, and got only one response. The guy said he couldn't come this Sunday, or next, but would try to make it on the 29th. ONE response. Cripes. It's one hour, one day a week, and people just don't seem to want to bother making a statement.

Here's the LINK to Wes' 2nd diary on Enough!

And the original diary is HERE.

22. A Few Reports from July 8 ENOUGH
In Cleveland

First Cleveland ENOUGH protest has been held with three people, all of us parents of active duty military! Mostly ignored. A few friendly folks stopped to chat and some honked and waved. One guy yelled from his car, "We've had enough of YOU!" We wondered WHO he thought we were, and I offered the the suggestion that one of our group members bears a slight resemblance to Cindy Sheehan.

In Los Angeles

We counted 32 at mid-point Wes, and I think several more joined up afterwards, so I'd say it was a very respectable first showing (that is in LA of course). It was rather poetic to be facing the Veterans Memorial cemetery across the street from the Federal Bldg... We made enough noise for a crowd of 100 though... with each passing honk, we all woohooed! ... Three city bus drivers honked repeatedly with determination.... Huge firetruck pulled up, when I showed him my "ENOUGH" sign, the fireman gave a distinctive agreement nod our way.... One passing motorcyclist was so enthused he did a wheeley right in the middle of Wilshire Blvd to show his agreement!

In a small town in Maine

A protest of one checking in. Okay, there are only 600 people living in my town, and getting one person, me, to stand out while wearing an Enough shirt, is just the beginning. I'll find some friends for next week.

In Federal Way WA

We had 10 people attend the July 8th protest. At this initial "ENOUGH" protest, we brought an assortment of signs, including a few "ENOUGH" ones. The traffic passes by too rapidly to be able to offer up any sort of explanation or elaboration on the declaration of "ENOUGH." As time goes by and people become familiarized with the reason for our presence on the corner, the percentage of "ENOUGH" signs will increase. We received plenty of affirmative honks from the passing motorists and a few not-so-friendly gestures.

In Philadelphia

3 in Philadelphia. We mostly talked amongst ourselves about the goings on in Washington DC and the future of the revolution. Next week shooting for 7! The Declaration of Independence was only signed by 56 dudes and now that's 300 million or so!

In San Diego

At noon there were two of us but soon there were 6 and near the end we added three more. With few people notified and almost no advance notice, that was a GREAT turnout. This is a fairly conservative area of San Diego North County. We'll do it again next week. It is at the corner of Twin Peaks and Pomerado Rd. on the San Diego/Poway border. Our location is a very busy intersection; we had many very enthusiastic honkers, wavers, thumbs uppers, and very few negatives.

In Santa Fe

I stood on the corner in front of the Roundhouse with my sign(s) and my tee(s)... no one joined in.... I'm also thinking of painting an umbrella, black one, with white words around it "ENOUGH?"..... It was hot outside and the umbrella might get more attention?

In Wilmington NC

In front of the Federal courthouse. 2 people strong this week but met quite a few people willing to stand with us next week. The courthouse faces the Cape Fear river in downtown Wilmington and there was plenty of foot traffic with plenty of tourist in town. Most people just walked by without any acknowledgment positive or negative. Many gave a polite nod and smile. The few that asked what the enough t-shirts were about responded with enthusiasm when we explained we had enough of the direction the administration was taking this country. I met at least 3 people who said they might join us next week. But I've got two other's i'm sure will join me next week.

24. July 15 ENOUGH - Wilmington NC

While the people who said they'd try and meet us fell through, my buddy I were joined by a wonderful woman from down the coast. We talked about the southeastern north carolina political landscape, ideas to get local attention, and current events.

There wasn't as much foot traffic this week but we did talk to some people included some college kids visiting from the Kansas City area and nobody flipped us off, or shouted us down or burst out laughing at the sight of three lonely patriots standing up for what they believe.

This week I need to find out the rules about permits for protests.

32. Reporting from Santa Fe, NM
Edited on Sun Jul-15-07 07:14 PM by kaycesf
WOOT! ENOUGH today was a happy protest!

I wasn't alone this Sunday after all. My husband went with me with his new Tee and we had lots of honks and thumbs up as I held my sign up. Some thumbs down by people, as you would suspect, in HUMMERS and big SUVs and other some such expensive vehicles. One woman, however, in a big beautiful Red Land Rover rolled down her window to say she agreed with my sign and she, too, had had ENOUGH! Many of the thumbs down actually came from regular-looking folks who are still holding on for Bush. The funniest groups were the open, cabana-covered Santa Fe tour vehicles with the touristas, many who yelled, "YOU ARE RIGHT!" or "RIGHT ON!" and gave a thumbs up.

Had one fella actually pull over to tell me that "If we don't fight them over there we will fight them over here!" bwahaha. And he became beligerant so I walked away. I had to bite my lips to keep from losing my cool. He's obviously a Fox viewer. We had a few walk-bys who said they would try to make it next Sunday.

We went to eat lunch at a bistro here in Santa Fe and two young men (late teens, early 20s?) were at the table discussing Harry Potter and how J. K. Rowling's fifth book (movie out now) had corresponding messages throughout the book to what is going on now in our Republic with the Bush administration/cabal. I interrupted their conversation, explained I couldn't help overhearing what they were talking about and that I completely agree with them.... and then told them about the ENOUGH protest on Sundays. They seemed very receptive and said they would try to bring some of their friends to it not next Sunday, but the following Sunday, and thanked me for telling them.

I had a few flyers with me about ENOUGH and gave three away to walkers who wanted to know about it, and one woman who made a turn around to get back to us to ask about it and she said she'd try to come next weekend.

There was a lot of traffic coming out of the P.E.R.A. building across the street of our Capitol Roundhouse, with buses taking people to the N.M. Museum that is having a huge Rummage Sale, so many going to it that there is no parking near the museum so people have to park in town and bus to it (which is very close to my home). The people in the buses were opening those dark-tinted windows and giving me a thumbs up, too! heh!

One Security Guard Co. truck passed by, he slowed down almost to a stop and told me I needed to realize that Bush is good for this country. :/

One lady yelled out of her window with the question: "DID YOU SEE MOYERS?" I yelled back yes, and she gave me a thumbs up.

SO... whether people were up-thumbed honkers or those who are bonkers for Bush... the message got out today by two people standing in Santa Fe to say ENOUGH. We stayed at my corner for about 2 hours today. I actually felt like staying longer, but I began to feel the sun cooking my brain so we left. LOL

I'm so rev'd up. I felt more positive today with more traffic at the intersection I stand at. My husband took some photos of me today, so now I have to figure out how to post them.

I'll be there, at the corner of Paseo de Peralta and Old Pecos Trail, in front of the Capitol Roundhouse, with signs and ENOUGH tees. Anyone in my area wanting to join me will be appreciated!

Thanks everyone who stood with all of us today!
