Just for fun: Write an ad for your candidate! |
|
Just for fun, let's try writing political ads for our candidates. Here's mine for Kucinich:
music: maybe the theme from "Rudy"?
voiceover (Not sure who would be good to do the voiceover -- any suggestions? I was thinking someone like Sam Waterston, but maybe that's too obvious):
You say you want a leader who understands the needs of people like you and will fight for you...
You say you care more about a proven record than about campaign promises...
You say you're tired of slick politicians who are nothing more than a pretty face in an expensive suit...
You say you want a leader who is willing to take risks and doesn't just follow the polls...
Don't just say it... ...Prove it.
Vote for Dennis Kucinich.
As the voiceover is going, have the words also printed on the screen against collages of various images of DK doing his job. End with that b&w photo of him that I've seen as a sig line where he's sort of animated and pointing out to an unseen audience. Oh, and the entire commercial is in black and white, maybe.
Well, that's the general idea. I think it could probably do with a good bit of tweaking. What do you think?
Now, write an ad for your own candidate. Let's get those creative juices flowing!
:)

Also thought of another "punchline" (instead of "Don't just say it... Prove it."), how about "Now's your chance to prove it."?

Open- a clip of first-graders reciting the Pledge of Allegiance from the line "One nation (under God or not DKs choice), indivisible with liberty and justice for all." showing how the kids voices get a bit louder on that last line.
Cut to clip of adults reciting the Pledge and how their voices don't rise on the final line.
Cut to Kucinich listing 10 key platorm issues
Cut to assembled group of adults and school children of various races saying "Dennis Kucinich for President. For liberty and justice for ALL!"

Scene opens: floor of Congress
Camera begins with a shot of a hand nervously tapping a newspaper from the end of 2000, talking about the SCOTUS decision and what happened in Florida. In the background, you hear a voice reading off the count of Electoral Votes. When the voice gets to Florida, the nervous hand clenches into a fist.
Next shot shows Kucinich, initially in silhouette in a sitting position, rise up and saying, "Mr. President, I object!"
Voiceover Narration: Only one candidate had the courage to stand up and fight for those who could not. Only one candidate said what the others were afraid to say.
While this narration is being read, the camera circles around from the back to the front of Kucinich. After the last line of the narration is read, by which time the camera is now at a 3/4 shot of his face, he says again, "I object!"
Screen goes black. Again, Voiceover Narration: Dennis Kucinich: He stood up for the rights of all Americans when others were silent. He will stand up for your rights as President of the United States.
Camera cuts back to Kucinich, who says, "But that is up to you."
Screen goes black again. "Vote Kucinich" graphics on screen; voiceover narration: Vote Dennis Kucinich (perhaps with date of primary/caucus following).
Camera cuts to Kucinich again. He says, "I fully endorse this message because freedom is more important than convenience."
Screen goes black. Commercial ends.

7. Since we already have a couple for Kucinich on this thread, |
|
I'll offer a couple for some other candidates -- neither one original to me, but here goes:
For Dean, something incorporating that Clinton quote about what HD eats for breakfast -- can't remember the exact quote but I think most of you have seen it.
For Kerry, something along the lines that Franken described in his Lies book.
