E.Edwards decries murder of gay man; says JE would repeal 1,000+ anti-gay laws

Note: Edwards does not support gay marriage--just like HRC and Obama.

SAN FRANCISCO—Elizabeth Edwards told a prominent gay rights group Saturday night that her husband, presidential candidate John Edwards, would help repeal more than a thousand laws that discriminate against same-sex couples.==

=="We were in fact reminded again while we share the lingering memory of a fence post in Laramie, the sorrow of that image is now joined by a park at Lake Natoma in Sacramento," she said. "And Matthew Shepard is joined by Satendar Singh as a martyr in that fight for justice."

Scott Wiener, a member of Human Rights Campaign's board of directors, said Elizabeth Edwards' speech conveyed to him that her husband agrees with her on most of the issues that are important to the gay community—except for one.

"He's there with us 99.9 percent. It's just on marriage, he's not there yet," Wiener said.==

1. The whole issue is simple for me
It's not an issue of gay rights, the issue is equal rights for all consenting adults. It's time to stop bigots from dictating what others can and can't do. The GLBT community is just as entitled as everybody else to make their own choices, without having to bow to religious fundamentalist opinions. Let them live their own lives as they choose, just don't inflict their choices on others.

2. I admire Elizabeith Edwards for making hr opinions known. John is
the only electable Democratic candidate so far, unless Gore runs.

3. How does a president repeal ANY laws?
What is she talking about? Most of these laws are state laws, and would have to be repealed by the state legislatures and governors. The federal laws would have to be repealed by Congress - only then would the president agree or veto those repeals.
