To Moyers, Fein, Nichols: Will Bush-Cheney leave in 2009? |
|
After watching Bill Moyers, Bruce Fein and John Nichols for the second time, I'm yearning to ask them if they think Bush-Cheney will find a way to retain power.
I'd like very much to know what risk they think exists of cancelled election or some other attack on the Constitution.

3. O suggested sending a link to that Moyers episode to Nancy, Conyers, Leahey, and your Rep and both |
|
Sens! I thought those two guys made the argument for Impeachment better than anyone I've seen so far! If they get enough emails and phone calls on the same topic, they'll do something!

8. It May Be That They Threatened To Declare Martial Law if Impeached |
|
That would certainly be a reason for impeachment to be "off the table" permanently :(

2. NONE! A President's and VP's term ENDS after 4 years! |
|
IF Shrub canceled the election, they STILL wouldn't retain office but the President would be replaced by the Speaker of the House! Now you REALLY don't see THAT happening do ya?
As an example from history, the swearing in ceremony was running a little late when HST left office. It was to take place at noon and it was about 12:10PM. Harry looked at the Speaker and said "Congrats, you are now the President of the US with the SHORTEST TERM IN OFFICE IN HISTORY!" Pf course he was joking, but that's what WOULD HAPPEN!

4. you are assuming that Bush and Cheney will leave voluntarily |
|

5. It doesn't matter! Like it or not, they're out of there in Jan 09! |
|
They CAN NOT serve more than 2 terms! That IS stated plainly in the Constitution. Even a Roberts SCOTUS can read!

6. Unfortunately, there's a LOT that is stated plainly in the Constitution. |
|
And bush/cheney certainly hasn't let that stop them in any other case.
You're correct, of course. It's just that we have two lawless rogues running the country with the sorriest, most pathetic "opposition" imaginable.

7. Bush* will cancel the elections in 2004, there will be a draft in 2005... |
|
I know right after I post this someone will chime in about being "unprepared", but people do raise a fair amount of panic over things that never come to pass.

9. Every federal official that carries a gun would have to be a Bush crony for that to work... |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-16-07 03:06 AM by Hippo_Tron
Because legally all of those officials would legally obligated to follow the orders of the new President. If elections are canceled, the Speaker of the House becomes the new President. The Secret Service would be legally obligated to escort Bush and Cheney out of the building at the request of the new President. Assuming he could staff the entire Secret Service with cronies, the FBI would probably be called in to deal with it.
The scene would be roughly equivalent to the Waco incident, but with the White House as the site.
Anyway, it's a scenario way out in fantasy land. Bush and Cheney will leave peacefully.
