While its true that Bush has done incalculable damage to our nation and the world, the fact is that the U.S. has been sliding to the right for decades. We had gotten to a point that many of President Clinton's policies were actually to the right of Nixon (welfare, environment). The Republican party was able to take over all the major branches of the federal government and totally dominate the political conversation in the country. The Democratic party was rapidly being reduced to a "republican-lite" loyal opposition. Rove's vision of a permanent majority was within reach. However, Bush has changed all that with his ham fisted policies and political tin ear. Bush and his cronies have over reached and blundered to such an amazing point that the Republican dream of a thousand year Reich has been shattered. Many of the administration's outrages could have been glossed over and lost to the memory hole were it not for the shear scale of the incompetence committed. It has taken a pointless war and the drowning of a major city to wake up enough of the sheeple to even begin a conversation in the MSM questioning what has been all to obvious to the rest of us. Where would we be if Bush and Cheney had been a little more subtle? I believe that we would be sliding toward fascism even faster, with only the distant warning from the "crazy" left to question the downward spiral. I'm not saying that the battle is won, far from it, as animals are most dangerous when they are cornered, but Bush has done what no other republican has done in a generation, he created an opening for change. This opportunity must be seized if we want to take back our nation and begin the long process of repair, and perhaps in time, we will look back and say it that it never could have happened with out Bush.

I only wish it didn't take such extreme incompetence to show many just how bad the Rightist arguments and positions are. And sadly, we're not all united yet - there are still about 25% or so lost souls, and even more who still are sadly under educated (for instance, the 41% who still think Iraq was tied to 9/11, etc.), so we have a long uphill battle ahead of us.

competing with himself for the title "Worst President Ever".
In that sense he has done the country some service.
He is taking the conservative dream to its ultimate and logical conclusion, only far too early. He has given us a glimpse of the future and more and more don't like it.
Thanks for a message of hope.

Their poorly conceived political machine is broken and twisted. The question is, how much duck tape will we allow them to use before we scrap their obviously terrible hunk-of-shit and install a good, intelligently designed replacement?
