Illinois Democratic meltdown....
Edited on Mon Jul-16-07 06:45 PM by unkachuck
....progressive governor Blagojevich vs. Madigan, corporatist speaker of the House....

"In a legislative session that has proved to be an embarrassment for Illinois' Democratic rule, the infighting between Gov. Rod Blagojevich and House Speaker Michael Madigan has become so acrimonious that it threatens to have long-term ramifications for the state's majority party."

"Blagojevich compares Madigan to a "right-wing Republican." The speaker demands that the governor cool the rhetoric, yet stands by while loyal House members call the governor a coward and urge other lawmakers to "just trample" him."

"Beneath the public displays, a struggle over the control and direction of Illinois' Democratic future has emerged between liberal and moderate camps."

1. good night!
I didn't think Madigan was still alive-he was active in politics when I lived in Illinois 20 years ago!

2. Oh yeah, Mike is still around.
Between him and Lil Richie, they rule the Dems organization in Cook County. However, Mike's daughter, Lisa is doing a great job as Attorney General of Illinois. She's someone to keep your eyes on.

3. Blago is no boyscout
He's just as slimy and corrupt as the entire Chicago machine.

A pox on both their houses.

4. Don't forget the Dem. State Senate leader.
Emil Jones has protected Illinois electric utilities from rate freezes while his stepson earns millions working for them, as well as millions in state contracts. We threw out the corrupt GOPers. Now we get this. Money and politics are a lethal mix for the people.
