My riff on the Scaife editorial, for a RW blog...
Edited on Tue Jul-17-07 01:10 AM by Richardo
Comments welcome...remember, it's an RW audience.

Newspaper belonging to Richard Scaife, the Soros of the Right, calls for troop withdrawal

...a "precipitous withdrawal", one might say.

Oh yeah, they also wonder if the President might just be crazy.

"Delicious."

The Pittsburgh Tribune, owned by Richard Mellon Scaife (right wing billionaire and financier to nearly a decade of anti-Clinton muckraking), came out with an editorial on Sunday calling for a change of course in Iraq and - astonishingly - questioning President Bush's mental health. Again, this is a Scaife newspaper. Let that sink in.

Incredibly, the editorial starts with:

"Perhaps Jack Murtha put it best...."

Whaaaaa....?

...and then goes to this rather Olbermann-esque couplet:

"President Bush warns that U.S. withdrawal would risk "mass killings on a horrific scale."

"What do we have today, sir?

...and brings it on home with:

"And quite frankly, during last Thursday's news conference, when George Bush started blathering about "sometimes the decisions you make and the consequences don't enable you to be loved," we had to question his mental stability.

If the president won't do the right thing and end this war, the people must. The House has voted to withdraw combat troops from Iraq by April. The Senate must follow suit.

Our brave troops should take great pride that they rid Iraq of Saddam Hussein. And they should have no shame in leaving Iraq. For it will not be, in any way, an exercise in tail-tucking and running.

America has done its job.

It's time for the Iraqis to do theirs. "

"Blathering." Wow.

Anyway, all that being said, I, Liberal, have as much a problem with "precipitous withdrawal" as do the President, Vice President and Rush Limbaugh. Incidentally, so does Senator Harry Reid. He's a Democrat, by the way.

However, I also have a problem with sending tens of thousands more troops to theater and calling that a 'new' strategy. No, a new stragey would be to say, implement the recommendations of the Iraq Study Group, which, incidentally, also called for troop withdrawal by spring of '08. With any luck (and about 10 GOP votes), the ISG recommendations will be the law of the land come September or so.
