Question...........DC August vacations
Who is taking August vacations........the Senate or Congress? Is it required? Could the dems stay in session and just keep working, pissing off the repubs having to come back to vote? Or, maybe they wouldn't come back to vote.

1. NO ONE in the Senate or the Congress should be allowed..
a vacation until the troops in Iraq get one.

3. Both Houses of Congress take a vacation for the month of Aug.
until after Labor Day. I don't THINK there's anything mandatory, but is tradition so members can campaign in their respective districts or States. I have hear that Reid was going to have the Senate convene every few days, almost always with only 1 or 2 Senators, JUST to prevent Shrub from making recess appointments, but I heard that a while ago and haven't heard any confirmation that he will do so for sure.

6. That's interesting.
If they're going to "traditionally" allow this incredibly long break (a break none of us regular working schmucks can ever hope to get), they should be restricted to campaigning ONLY during those breaks.

(I'm talking to YOU, presidential contenders - how many votes have you missed due to your VERY premature campaigns???)

4. Look on this as an opportunity
If you camp out at your Congressman's local office with a peace sign, he just might see you. Better yet call the branch office nearest you and ask to set up a meeting with the Congressman or Senator.

5. August on top of so many other "breaks"....no wonder they can't
get as much done as we think they should be. The other problem that I notice is that before breaks they hurriedly discuss and pass bills (God forbid they would actually read them) when more thought and discussion would be better.

8. the current schedule calls for the following summer recess:
Senate: August 6 through September 3 (Labor Day).

House: August 6 through August 31 (although as a practical matter, they won't conduct any real business until after September 3).

These are not written in stone.
