He does not have that kind of appeal. He would be the Republican version of John Kerry or Adlai Stevenson. And Republicans would be less likely to vote for Roberts or to get excited about him than the Democrats got about Kerry or Stevenson. He is not the right guy to garner the redneck support. Besides, he is more powerful than the president and doesn't have to face the personal scrutiny. Why in the world would he want to run for president?

No matter which Dem. People don't vote on issues but on emotions. Example, My neighbor says Romney has the "look". I ask, what look? Reply, you know the look! He would have to step down from to the Court to campaign, that means Bush would get a new nominee who would surely be somewhat less conservative than Roberts because Democrats now control the Senate, and there is always the possibility that Roberts loses and gets nothing.

He has no organization, and has made no indication whatsover that he would do this in a million years.

from Oct to end of May. Plenty of time for him to get in. Their convention is next Aug.
