The Vote on Iraq: My Suggestion
There's a thread in LBN that quotes Gen. Pace as saying there's been a "sea change" in the security situation in Bagdhad. Now a wag might suggest that the security situation has been transformed from "extremely dangerous" to "get me the fuck out of here dangerous" in just a few short months. Of course, the Bush Administration and its enablers in Congress (yeah, I'm talkin' to YOU, Joe Lieberman) will argue that this is just the proof that we need -- the surge is working and just a few more months will see peace and tranquility come to Iraq.

Here's how we should hold the vote on whether the surge should go forward. Any member of Congress who desires to vote to extend the surge should be required to traverse 100 yards in Bagdhad outside of the Green Zone. No armored humvees, no security detail. 100 yards. If you survive, your vote counts. If you don't, well, we'll certainly remember you fondly. Except Ted Stevens, but it's only because he's an evil prick.

Come to think of it, this would make a damned fine pay-per-view event. Who wouldn't want to see Lindsay Graham dodging shrapnel shouting "Let them win! Let them win!" and pissing himself. Me? I'd pay top dollar to see if Sam Brownback is bullet-proof.

Just a suggestion.

1. I like it
maybe we should give them a fighting chance though. Let them wear body armor, ride in humvees, and just patrol the streets. Only to make it fun, paint big targets on the humvees, so the insurgents will know when to dial the cellphones. Then when one of the humvees gets blown to shit, send another one full of them out to pick up the pieces. And tghen another. And then another. Just stay the course. In fact, if it doesn't seem to be accomplishing anything, send MORE! See if a 20% surge in sorties makes a difference.

Oh, and if one of them makes it back - don't let them catch their breath; turn them around and send them back out. Hand them some photos of their families, remind them what they are missing, and then tell them to suck it up and get back to work, because we know they just loooooove it.

2. Good point...
We'll have to reauthorize the vote at least every 9 months, so they have to go back and do it again!
