I am sure I would get my share as well but some OPs just want to make you spit. So how about voicing your displeasure the same way you voice your pleasure with an OP: Click the "Boo Hiss" button?

It might save everyone some energy on rant fests or mindless arguments about whether Tony Snow lied when he said it was 130 Degrees in Baghdad or shooting coyotes in Golden Cate Park?

If you like the idea please hit recommend and givr it a kick" If you don't....welll umm errr.. sorry.

2. I would use it on all Paris Hilton threads.

I like to see how the programmers will handle that. Does one boo/hiss cancel one recommend?

16. That's the worst idea of all. It's called censorship.
How about just ignoring or negatively responding to the recommended threats you don't like, just like you ignore or negatively respond to the regular threads you don't like. Why is that so hard? Why do you need a censor button?

4. It would only work for the first four "recommends".
After that it would be on the Greatest page for all to see. Even if it were withdrawn later.

But it does seem fair at face value. I don't know.

5. The boo hiss feature is the same as the recommend button
A zero recommend post is another form of a boo hiss feature. Different side of the coin.

7. I disagree
A zero recommend post is merely inconsequential. Now, if we see a post with -5 reccomends....

Say, that's a good question. What if some people Recommended and some people UN-recommended?

10. as is the "rec" button.
I've seen countless threads with 30+ recs that I think are not worthy of that type of attention.

13. We had something like this for a very short while a few years back
It was a 1 to 5 voting feature, IIRC, and people could vote your threads accordingly. The average number, then, was your result. The Admins removed it pretty quickly, I think because people either complained about it or seemed to be abusing it.

14. There's plenty of crap threads posted around here
I wish some people would just let them drop instead of instigating things further. There's quite a few people who seem to come here looking for, and enjoying a fight.

15. I hate the idea. It allows a small, motivated subset of DUers to censor important info.
If you want Dailykos censorship crap, go to Dailykos.

17. OK ... count me in ...
i saw this thread yesterday and didn't even open it. I thought the last thing we needed was more friction on DU. I've changed my mind.

the candidate puppets are spamming the hell out of GDP. for the first time ever, I've started hiding threads. there's almost never real information about candidates. where do they stand on single payer? how exactly would they address outsourcing? what do they have to say about massive corporate money pouring into the campaigns? instead, we get a parade of meaningless polls, meaningless endorsements and a bunch of gotcha garbage ... candidate puppets don't discuss the issues that matter ...

and all the supporters of that candidate pile on to recommend the thread ... what a joke the recommendation system has become ... so, count me in ... when I see these useless posts, I would love to be able to "boo it" ... right now, these threads are spamming DU and we have no useful vehicle to criticize them ... "Hillary bought new shoes" ... 15 recommendations ... well, how about 15 recommendations and 75 boo's ... maybe that will help stop the nonsense ...

20. I like this idea; It's not censorship at all
The OP will still be there, it just will have the information that a bunch of people thought the post was bad. The information about who gave the recomendation should be made public too.

21. Hey! Somebody trying to take my job!....
:D

May I suggest the "ignore thread" function for the threads you do not wish to look at, and if you have a particular poster you not fond of, you can always opt to "ignore" that member.

As far as recommendations go, we have a huge readership here, and the threads that get onto the Home Page are nominated freely and because members feel they have importance. There are times when some threads get pulled from the Latest/Greatest, but I hope no one posts items that would require such actions.

The Boards are open for discussions, and as long as people stay within the rules, DU runs pretty smoothly...:)
