Nicholls: Most Congresspeople don't understand the constitution
http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/07132007/profile.html

He says our current reps don't understand the level of the crisis we're in, and what their responsibility is to fix it.

1. He doesn't understand
The Repukes want a dictatorship, as long as they are the ones making the rules and sending their enemies off to the camps.

The Dems are now just using that dry powder they've been storing for years, hopefully something will click and they'll realize exactly what this administration is doing.

2. I would suggest that conservative republicans are experts on the constitution
that's why they have a strong desire to destroy it. Just like their christian brethern. Its an incredibly pesky document for those who want to hate and not take responsibility for anything.

3. It is on record and there is a video of it-- John Warner
doesn't know the constitution because Section I, Article 8, Clause 11 says ONLY CONGRESS HAS THE AUTHORITY TO DECLARE WAR.

Warner says the amendment Levin inserted in the bill ( I think it is the one the repubs are filibustering) that says bush does not have authority to invade Iran is unconstitutional. HERES A MAN WHO HAS BEEN IN THE SENATE FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND HE DOESN'T KNOW THE CONSTITUTION.

And you see it over and over from all the republicans. What school did they go to .

4. I suspect that too many Americans in general...
do not even understand the crucial importance of the document, much less what it actually entails.

This is a major problem, imho: how to get the majority of American citizens to give a damn about civics in action.

Get a handle on that and I think we might actually get somewhere...
