Barack Obama speaking now on Senate floor.
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 09:43 AM by flpoljunkie
Senator Obama's remarks were short, but he reiterated that there are "no good options, only bad and worse." Obama will be supporting Reid/Levin to set a mission as he sees Levin/Reed as the best step forward at this point in the debate.

His full statement will be entered in the record.

1. Less than inspiring. Milk toasty, very bland.
I was disappointed in his speech - phoned it in. I want fire and brimstone, I want outrage, "pissed-off-i-ness" and passion. I'm sick and tired of "my friends," "my fellow Senator," and all the faux chumminess while the rethugs are calling us everything but Al Queda operatives because we want to end this illegal war.

Side note - does anyone know how many people (floor and gallery) the Senate seats? I have this visual of 3,600 military people who are no longer with us filling the seats in this chamber 10 times over while watching the repugs continuing this farce in their names. And more worrisome, the people who are alive and well today but will fill one of those seats tomorrow, or next week or next month, or god forbid, next year.

3. Screaming at the Repugs won't change their minds...
I thought the speech was that of a statesman. Red-face screaming is not going to change the Repugs' minds. Voting them out of office next year will.

2. Feingold will support Levin/Reed, but will demand vote of Feingold/Reid if it fails.
Link to Feingold's website and a video of his short speech on Levin/Reed which will be up for cloture vote about 11AM.
