Stupid article of the day: Democrats might lose pro-Israel vote
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 07:08 PM by antiimperialist
A writer in the Politico, whose contact information is not listed anywhere in the site, has written an empty, nonsensical article about how Democrats are alieneting "pro-Israel" voters and might lose this block to Republicans.

She cites the 2006 vote on "confirm its support of Israel's right to defend itself against terrorism" as evidence to back up her claims.
But she ignored (on purpose?) that four months after that vote, 87% of Jewish voters voted for a Democrat, against only 12% who voted Republican). See http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2FELECTION%2F2006%2Fpages%2Fresults%2Fstates%2FUS%2FH%2F00%2Fepolls.0.html&ei=SaqeRpvMJMLAiwHJjvD9BA&usg=AFQjCNH1hJksSRSxVXtOW0MJ-feDOhG71w&sig2=dqJX5_C15N18DnWc9SQ9NA">CNN 2006 exit poll.
She also cites a similar vote in 2002, but again ignored (on purpose? Or is she just dumb?) that John Kerry received 75% of the Jewish vote. See http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2FELECTION%2F2004%2Fpages%2Fresults%2Fstates%2FUS%2FP%2F00%2Fepolls.0.html&ei=uaqeRvTTJoq4iwHXwoWNBQ&usg=AFQjCNESMeKcc1LCfQbF4sTxh1Cq7NHwOg&sig2=g3otxaOgKKWLfr1VpEqI0g">2004 CNN exit poll

6. People who stereotype ethnic groups as monolithic voting blocs are racist, IMO...
Inferring that Jewish, black, Latino, or any other people vote the same way is ridiculously racist.

I also read another article recently showing that the percentage of American Jews who could be considered "pro-Israel" is dropping, particularly among younger voters.

Then again, I think her use of "pro-Israel" is misleading. I'm pro-Israel. But I'm very strongly anti-Likud, anti-AIPAC and anti-Olmert, which is I think what she was getting at.
