I've decided that I will not only vote for, but campaign for John Kerry |
|
after the primaries.
Even though I have a very significant number of problems with John Kerry and am nervous about some of his traits and positions, I have decided that I can indeed get fired up enough to go door to door, make phone calls, and hand out fliers for Kerry so that he wins Wisconsin in November. The reason for this is, for all my problems with Kerry, Bush is so profoundly bad for the country that I can't take the chance that he could remain president. So hence forth, I am dropping all criticism of Kerry and ask for forgiveness from those Kerry supporters I offended with my harsh rhetoric. The wounds must be healed.

After the primaries I hope each and every American takes a real look at the candidates.
On the one side, you have GWB, and I think we all know that the second four years will be worse, not better.
On the other, you will have a Democrat that fought for his country, twice. Once when they asked him to go to Vietnam and once again when he came home to get us out of the illegal war there. Kerry is a true patriot and fighter. His voting record is one of most liberal in the Senate, he has stood with the average American in 20 years of being Senator.
Yes, John Kerry is a nominee that we can be proud of. Is he perfect, hardly, but when compared to Bush, he's shining brighter than the medals on his chest.

5. I'm not aboard until after the primaries. |
|
But I will be aboard after in full. I expect to work harder than I have ever worked on anything.

and you won't be disappointed. I think the Democratic Party will be very united this November, and I think the platform will be quite progressive -- no, it won't be Dennis Kucinich's, but I think progressives and Democrats will find quite a lot to like in it. And, though I can't guarantee anything, I'm cautiously optimistic that you can find much to like in a Kerry presidency.
But I respect you for making this transition. I hope that all progressives will make the same choice over the next few months, though I'll give them time.

7. I can so long as Kerry will present true courage as president and not only |
|
do what is popular. I can't stand it when politicians do that.

throw away principles, don't stand for what you believe in. instead get behind someone because it's more important to "win" than to do what's right.

8. I think that's great and you don't need forgiveness for promoting someone |

else. The only things that are repulsive about the candidate wars are having a double standard for a candidate's openness and for deliberately smearing candidates and using DU for the spread of right wing propaganda...it's not that that is unforgivable, it's that it is doing the right wing's job for them.
That said, I am glad you were fierce in your advocacy for your own candidate...that will only be a plus when the Democratic nomination is made and you support that candidate.

17. So Your Preference, Sir |
|
Would be for a victory in the fall by the criminals of the '00 Coup?
If the choice before you then is these reptiles or Sen. Kerry, a person who refuses to support the Democratic Party's nominee could be viewed only as a willing tool of reaction: that is beyond any debate.
