IDAHO POLL: Gore on top (31%), then Hillary (23%) and Obama (22%)
Poll: Idahoans Deem Mitt Fit and Want More Gore
By J. Gelband, 7-18-07

This just in: Results from a poll of Idahoans indicate that the state’s voters prefer former Vice President Al Gore and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney for president in 2008.

Seriously. Greg Smith & Associates, an Idaho marketing and research company, released the results of a statewide public opinion research study among likely 2008 primary election votes.

Poll respondents were asked who they would support for their party’s nominee “if the election was held today.”

Of the Idaho Democrats polled, 31 percent indicated they would vote for Gore. Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama came in second and third, respectively, with 23 percent and 22 percent.

Senator John Edwards received 10 percent, “another candidate” got 6 percent and 8 percent were still undecided.
When asked to exclude Gore, 33 percent of Idaho Democrats said they support Obama, while 31 percent support Clinton. In this category, Edwards garnered 15 percent while 21 percent choose “another candidate” or are undecided.

<SNIP>

The poll, conducted July 11-13 randomly selected 400 statistically representative Idahoans 18 years or older who are likely to participate in either the Democratic Caucus in February or the Republican primary in May 2008.

1. This news is just as good for Obama as it is for Gore.

11. 124 leaves you with a tremendous margin of error
You need at least 600-1000 people to get your margin of error down to single digits.

12. I believe the poll was held with 400 people,
the largest percent, 31% to be exact or 124 people wanted Al Gore.

18. 400 people allow a single digit margin of error, @5%
so Gore does show support thought it could be a 3 way tie

15. Relying on BS polls, which he also wrote about in The Assault On Reason
And which he already stated he does not follow because they are insignificant in context to discussing issues.

13. Yep, and the pollster (who's a Republican), admitted that the poll
had a high margin of error.
I'm a big supporter of Gore and Obama, but let's avoid relying on suspect polls. That makes it harder to dispute them when they're used by our opponents.

16. A Republican eh?
Sounds like it was fixed that way to purposefully push him again. Why can't people just leave the man alone to his own thoughts and decisions?

5. Good. Also evidence they are paying attention in taht state is that
they picked Romney. Where nationally Guili (omg is he just dumb?) and McCain (lost it) get the higher marks.

My support for is still reserved for Gore. That's not to say that I don't like Dodd, DK, Richardson, Obama. Still trying to figure out Edwards, he says the right things, but something i can't put my finger on... Maybe it's that tortish flavor he has about him.

Good news thanks for posting.

9. They would probably be considered uncommitted delegates
and they could conceivable remain uncommitted delegates at the national convention. But it is up to the Democratic Party in Idaho and how they decide to run things. They might even have something in their by-laws that cover something like uncommitted delegates.

In 2004, I was a Dean delegate at the convention. Dean released us from our commitment and urged us to vote for Kerry on the convention floor. I would assume that if an uncommitted delegate made it to the convention floor that they can vote any way that they please.

14. I have to believe that this is more name recognition than anything else.
I'd be more impressed if the people polled were required to name all the Democratic candidates before they were allowed to select a favorite!
