In latest Zogby, Harris and Rasmusssen polls, Thompson now top GOP'er

Rudolph Giuliani's campaign is being undermined by the prospect of a Fred Thompson candidacy. Three national polls, Zogby (Thompson +1), Rasmussen (Thompson +1) and now Harris (Thompson +1) have found Giuliani's numbers slipping as fast or faster than John McCain's.

On the Democratic side, things haven't changed significantly.

I think this is the third lead change among the Republican field. Which goes to show how fluid numbers this early actually are...

Obama now trails by 7% against Hillary, according to Rasmussen.

That's with her husband campaigning with her.

2. This is a "grass is always greener" story. The Pubs aren't happy

with their Party, not happy with their Prez, and certainly not happy with the field of declared candidates. I think they're grasping at any alternative who happens to look like another possibility! I suggest IF Thompson finally decalres after Labor Day, he won't be able to maintain his popularity either!

4. Thompson appears to be surging way too early...

this probably spells doom for him in the end, as he can't possibly be as good as everybody seems to think he is. He's probably just the flavor of the week at this point.

The bottom line is that the Repubs have a very weak field, and they'll have no coat tails to ride on next year.

7. Good. He's easier to take down than Rudy. Unfortunately, I believe

this now opens the door for Bloomberg, if Rudy isn't the nominee. Fred's further to the right than Rudy--gives Bloomberg a "centrist" opening that Rudy would have filled.
