New Poll! Smith is in deep, deep trouble...

A poll conducted for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee shows that Oregon Senator Gordon Smith’s approval rating has dropped precipitously since the beginning of the year, with only 37% of likely Oregon voters now approving of his job performance and 54% disapproving.

----

Yes, pilgrims, GSmith voted with Hagel and the Maine Gals a couple of nights ago, but this is because Gordon Smith knows what the polls are saying. Oregonians aren't buying his election year conversion.

The weird thing is, no well-known Oregon Democrat has even announced a run against him.

I'm starting to think that if my dog runs against the Pea-Packer, he's got a solid chance.

On a larger scale, I think this could be indicative of the total debacle that may well await the Republican Party on election night in November 2008.

When a two-term incumbent Senator is polling below 40%, despite having tried to change his tune on the Iraq occupation, that's excellent news.

I'm interested to know how it's going in other states with vulnerable Republican up for re-election next year.

1. I hope there's some great quality
people in Oregon who want to serve their country by being elected US Senators. I know there's highly qualified people in other states who lost to bushitlovers in 2004. Erskine Bowles comes to mind in North Carolina and Max Cleland in Georgia where that asshole saxby chamby ran ads with Cleland's pic next to sadamn and osama bin hidin'.

2. I'm curious to see who will run against him.
I recently heard some talk about my state senator, Ben Westlund. He's a recent defector from the republican party, and may be able to "swing" some votes from central and eastern oregon.

I seem to remember hearing some other possibilities last year, but I haven't heard anything recently.

5. Westlund might do it. I like Jeff Merkley
Jeff Merkley is someone I could support.

link: http://www.blueoregon.com/2007/07/note-this-is-th.html

Jeff earned his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and pursued his Masters Degree in Public Policy on a full scholarship at the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. He was selected as a Presidential Management Intern in 1982. He tackled various assignments in the Office of the Secretary of Defense including coordinating a committee on technology transfer, developing a computer model to study the proposed “small ICBM,” generating a verification strategy for theater arms agreements, and assisting the US delegation to NATO. Jeff then served Congress as a budget and policy analyst in the Congressional Budget Office, generating studies on the nation’s options for strategic weapons.

More than most state legislators, Merkley has had a substantial background in national defense and foreign affairs. Not all international experience is limited to defense, and here Merkley has experience as well. He also served as president for the World Affairs Council and remains a trustee. The Council was created to broaden understanding of international affairs, and in his involvement with the organization, Merkley interacted extensively with world leaders and delved into the issues confronting their countries. We live in a global world, and Merkley has the experience to step into a role where he would be dealing with trade, global environmental issues, international relations, and defense.

3. Wow! That's great news.
There is NO REASON we should have to put up with that Asshat. It's just plain embarrassing we have a Senator with an R by his name. I despise Gordo -- he tries to come across as Mr. Moderate and votes with the wingnuts. :grr:

4. Smith would never have won statewide in the first place
Had Oregon Democrats recruited and backed a candidate that would have fought him earnestly.

6. 2002 or 1996?
In either case, I agree.
